Bagstr 287 Posted February 2, 2019 Desert Green: Is such a rare experience, especially after the last two years of ocotillo killing draught. When it comes and the plants burst forth, as it were reborn, the feeling is that of witnessing a miracle. Sweeny Pass Four of us plus Beezzz wife showed up about 8:00 and leisurely got reacquainted and assembled for our ride. The theme was Desert Green. Bagstr 287 Posted February 2, 2019 In our pursuit of Desert Green we rode west to Indian Canyon ( thru the gorge ) then north to the Top of Diablo and Arroyo de Tapiado. The ram is hoofing the top off the barrel cactus before dining.

Van 35 Posted March 20, 2019 So I went out today and found the Barrel cactus that we saw the sheep eating on this ride. After bashing the barrels with their horns and using their hoofs to remove thorns, I still don't see how they eat them without suffering stabbing wounds from the thorns. This is in Indian Gorge.
simicrintz 177 Posted March 20, 2019 Will that recover or is it now dead?
Van 35 Posted March 20, 2019 Base was still green. Just may have to visit later to find out. There was another eaten one nearby that was dead so this may be the answer.

Wow fascinating Van...I had no idea that the sheep bashed, stomped and ate the barrel cacti...this old dog keeps learning new tricks!
