I’ve done the water/Gatorade bottle for years, never had an issue and never had to walk. Used a five quart oil jug on the Dempster Highway where it’s 250 miles to the first fuel. Worked great. RotoPax is bulky and heavy for a bike, in my opinion. Better for Tacoma’s to show off in the parking lot. Guess the GS guys could run them, too. I have a couple of the Starbucks coffee bladders, never used one to carry fuel on the bike yet but would work similar to the Armadillo deal and it was free. I like free.

I tried the starbucks coffee bladder. It works however just for a day or two. The fuel separated the liner so you get a bag within a bag. by my 3rd time using it, it would not pour out. I needed to stab the (now internal bag) to get the fuel out.

I downsized from the 8 gallon GSA bike to a 5 gallon GS bike. The very rare times I miss the big tank is when I'm Iron Butting to get somewhere far. I would never carry a Rotopax for reasons stated above. I'd be much more inclined to do a @tntmo for that one time in 5 years that I might need a little fuel bump. I do carry (on group tours) a liter of oil, and a liter of fuel (for 'that guy' in the group). Have never needed the fuel yet because we have planned fuel stops, and it's hard to forget to fuel up when the 9 guys around you are pumping gas. .....hmmm. I just talked myself into ditching the fuel bottle. I used to use a good slosh of gas though to start campfires, and that was pretty handy. But lately I just find a good clean stick and dip it in the gas tank for a fire starter torch. And tank is always full when I do that cause . . . . fires are in the evening. Evening means we gassed up recently for the next days ride. So that always works a treat. The oil bottle though ??? Yeh. It's been called into play a few times. Usually about a half hour after I put the JB Quickweld away.

I have been using a bladder I got from Australia, I like the fact it can carry up to 2.5 gallons if needed, I put in less as the ride dictates. Advantes to me are the fact that you only take up space when needed and when not being used it folds flat to the point of it can remain tied to the inside of a pannier rack etc out of the way for 99% of the trip till needed. You cant do that with a rotopac it takes up the same amount of space all of the time. My .02 I also run a larger tank for bigger rides but thats just me (I have 3 tanks for the 525) stock 4.5Gal Safari 7Gal Acerbis I pretty much run the safari all the the time except for when I do DV trips with known 250 mile loops and I want to explore so the big tank goes on for those trips.

We should test the GS Starbucks coffee blader. Personal I like the blader type.

I don't know if it's preferred, but we ran White Rim Road clockwise. I would suspect this to be the more challenging way since there are two significant climbs you have to pay attention to. However, we all know when you reverse a route it becomes a new day (gpx files attached) Allow 8 hours minimum seat time if you expect to do it in a single day. (collarbone is now healing nicely after 4 surgeries...should see me in the saddle mid to late summer) 1 - Moab to Potato Bottom.gpx 2 - Potato Bottom to Farmington.gpx

Based on my research, the primary factor in direction is time of day. If one goes in the morning and heads east, one may have the sun in one's eyes for the duration of the journey. Last time I rode it, I started in the dark (nobody is surprised) and had no problems with the sun. Light traffic, out of the canyon by 1 without any dawdling. I love morning rides.

the @Mr.JAJA selfie is great! Good to see you out there and enjoying it. @shutterrev excellent sunset pic with the @tntmo CT Monster 125 @padu you're smiling in ever picture - awesome energy @DSM8 great pic of Green River, Utah. I may need to bribe you with burritos for info on that area for an upcoming trip. Looks similar to what @Bagstr and @PbdBlue rode from La Sal, Utah staying at the 3 Steps Hideaway: @Zubb that looks like a big low tide in San Quintin. We'll see how many swigs of "medicine" it takes before we pry Secret Spot info out of you! @moto_rph excellent contribution! how are you healing up? @Pokey151 is that the water near Bee Canyon? @350thumper I'm sure you have some great desert sunset pics to share! @paulmbowers that's a classic pic of the dustman @Covered in Dust. Maybe you and @DSM8 know, aren't permits are now required for White Rim Trail? (unsure if they were in the past)

Thanks! I love working on these things, reading about these things, riding these things. Can’t beat a bike revival craigslist, OfferUp, and fb market place for me. This one came from OfferUp. I love these projects so much I’m always perusing. Mostly window shopping. I don’t need or want any more projects, but when something irresistible pops up I can’t myself. I’ve got two options when this 450 is complete: 1. sell the 450, use the proceeds to rebuild my old 400 into a respectable machine 2. Keep the new 450, sell the remnants of the 400 to recoup some of my money 3. rebuild the 400 into a respectable machine, keep both… But wait, there’s more. I also have my brothers 2005 crf450x sitting at a family friends house across town with a blown engine. it’s been there for years, so no rush, but I’d really like to get that rebuilt too See what I mean when I say I don’t need more projects? For now I’ll focus on getting this new 450 up to snuff, then figure things out from there
