cmayer31 3 Posted November 19, 2010 One of my favorite areas to camp and fish. One of these days I'll have to take the bike along! Looks like it was a great trip.
Sneeker 25 Posted November 19, 2010 Cold? Not so bad. In fact the hard part was to come, snow & sweat. We had no idea the north side of the mountain was so full of snow. The road cut into the mountain had filled in with 3 to 4 feet of snow, lucky the slope was not rocky or too steep or deep! Necessity forced us to go X-country until the road cleared up. XRs are HEAVY stuck in the snow, Phew! End of the road for Day One More to come soon....

dsfox 0 Posted November 20, 2010 Awesome pics...the weather looked perfect....would love to chat with you in the next couple of days (gonna be following in your footsteps, leaving wed for the long weekend...based out of bishop...) hope it's nice and sunny like your weekend... I know it is unpredictable and changes quickly, but at what elevation did you encounter legitimate snow depths.?........I don't mind a little snow, but the 3-4 feet looks intimidating..trying to map out some possible routes based on elevation....have lots of tracks..... The worst of the snow was on the north side of the White Mtns ~9000 ft, I think after this weekend's storm many of the places I went on my trip will be buried for the winter. Owens Valley and the foothills will have plenty of clear riding for you tho.

Sneeker 25 Posted November 20, 2010 DAY THREE: We were supposed to ride all day and leave the next but a couple of issues popped up: 1) One of our riders told his wife that we'd be gone 3 days and not 4 by mistake, he couldn't stay the extra day. Once resolved to ride a short day and then depart we readied ourselves to ride. 2) Our rider on the KTM powered up his bike, then a loud whistling sound and smoke started pouring from it, after 3 seconds something exploded like a firecracker, turned out that his CDI thingy grenaded. Many comments were made about Honda vs. KTM reliability. Good thing it happened at camp! So only a short ride into the White Mtns, just a few pictures. Darn, left the trials bike at home... THE END of a perfect trip. Pictures from the ride home. Next year Tonopah: NORTH.
dirt dame 452 Posted November 20, 2010 Cool stuff (except for the July 4th CDI).
