Recommended Posts

Just realized I broke my foot (first broken bone) at 43 years of riding - so I beat you Ken, wait, maybe you beat me?

I broke my tiba fibia in Big Bear. I am sitting in Colton for surgery. This process takes a long time. Was supposed to go in at 7:30 but it is 10:15 and no action yet. I am not in too much pain but who knows what the future holds. Thanks to all the Sdar peeps that have been helping me and in the future.

Bummer Kug. Big Bear is hard on bodies. Heal fully and quickly. We all need another KKug Mystery Ride! :smile_anim:

I picked up Ken at the hospital today and delivered him safe and sound to his house. I'm sure he'd like to hear from people so give him a call and take him out to eat or for a cold beer. He won't be driving himself for awhile.

There should be a "broken bone party" whenever somebody cracks up and breaks something solid in their corpus.

Both Tib and Fib? Must have been quite the getoff! Take the drugs, don't get the cast wet and relax.

Heal up quick.

I just broke my tiba. The fib has small hairline in it. I guess it will just heal as is. I got a rod in my tiba. No cast. But will take some time to heal.

Well I got a rod put in my right lower leg. No cast so far?. With being the weekend not many ortho people around. The hospital looks dial in though. Waiting to see ortho guy this morning.

I glanced off a tree branch that was 4 inches around. That will teach me for telling everyone to hug the right side. Got deflected to the left and crashed auger in to another Bush. Over the bars I went. Happens fast.

Later

Well Ken if you don't have a cast on I'll just pick you up on the 950 SE when they release you.

CiD

So I told that to the nurse and she got a kick out of it.

What's your favorite beer lately?

So I know what to bring you.

Randy accepted me this am.

Good for you.

Any thing from the Stone line up will do. I got a empty growler sitting here. Maybe in a few days we can do a road trip.

I happened to be the first to find ken on the side of the trail....scary to not see him moving...but I guess the wind was knocked out of him too, so once he responded, I tried to help him get comfortable, he knew something was not right with his foot....we were very fortunate the he search and rescue folks were about 8 miles away, but all in all it still took almost 2 hours to get him down the hill. and it was only about a mile from where they could drive the ambulance to....

I imagine when these things happen WAY out on the trail, the injured party could be many hours out there....Just reminds us all to be prepared, and have some knowledge of first aid.....at least basic......we knew to leave the boot on, best splint you could want....even the EMT's said that also....

ON the break, Yes, both bones, and get this, when jonathan and I brought dinner to ken last night (after he finally got home)....we walk in and he has NO CAST...THAT was freaky!!!....but apparently when they install a big steal rod between the broken bones, they DON'T put a cast....wild.....still amazes me...

I've got tons of pics of the event and rescue...not on photobucket yet...will do this weekend....

Glad we have a community of riders who stick together....I know the times I've been hurt....all my riding buddies were amazingly helpful and selfless...

We are so blessed to have each other out there....

Heal up ken, and please let us know if you need anything....

I ended up in Arrowhead Regional medical center in Colton after the ER in big bear found out that I needed some major repairs. 450 bed hospital. It is huge. I guess training center for Loma Linda. A the staff were great. Only it takes so long between steps but I was in no hurry to walk out because I could not anyway.

Hey Ken, I think I read in here that you said you only broke 1 of the bones in your ankle?...but on saturday you told us you broke both, plus the cracks above your knee? you said you had 3 breaks.... that was immediately after diagnosis....maybe it was the pain meds you were on saturday?

Here's some pics....Big bear was amazingly beautiful, nice weather, and Johnnybags was the wesome host he always is....we were all going to camp, but he graciously put us all up and cooked for us even...Thanks John...great time as always...

Thanks to the group for a great weekend: johnnybags, bostonmangler, pyro, capncham, kugs, and a visit from jhodnett....

SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM....THEY WERE AWESOME... and Ken got to break in their brand new side by side rescue vehicle...not yet equipped with a stretcher...but he got a comfortable seat in the back, luckily only about a mile to the waiting ambulance...

It's always a drag when someone gets hurt...Ken: Heal up quickly, I'm sure you will because you're in better shape than most people half your age......As for the rest of the weekend....between rescue and hospital situations....we did get some great mountain riding in.....

Big bear never disappoints...

Db good questions. When I was in big bear I thought I had two to three breaks. I only got a glimpse on the ER doctor, s phone. Maybe it was some mtn. Bikers x ray. After the surgery in Colton I got that I had one break(tibia) and a Crack in my fibia that will probably heal up on it, s own. What I have a problem is that they don,t carry around you x rays and show you what is realy happening. I ordered that my records be transferred to my Doc here in Escondido. I hope I get to see everything for my self.

Ok its been about 41/2 weeks since I broke my leg. Today I finally got to see a orthopedic doctor . ( Thanks to a slow health care system ) I was starting to drive around, swelling has gone down, and I am putting a lot more pressure on it when walking with my walker.

Some wanted to see my X rays --me too. Needless to say I was shocked --you can still see the breaks. Doc says it will be months before it is all filled in . Sorry for the crapy pictures. There is a rod in their someplace.

Enjoy !!
