Riggerdan 147 Posted September 10, 2012 After going through some old pictures I found some of a trip through Cambodia after doing some work in Vietnam Nothing to adventurous other then traveling through the hills from Phnom Penh south into the Kampot District and over to Sihanoukville / Sangkat I found an old Honda and few plastic garbage bags wrapped up my stuff and off I went, no itinerary just a few weeks to myself...... Rained almost all day, every day It was a treat to ride through the "beautiful" green hills and interact with locals along the way I was probably just as funny looking to them as the family of 4 and a pig on the back of their motorbikes .............An old trip, but thought it was worth posting then letting the pics sit inside my hard drive Not sure I would take this thing into McCain Valley The flag A little buddy who a little to close to my pillow Local sports drink Multiple exposure Nice to see they have some national parks Cambodian bike candy local kids working away gathering rocks Nice to see a smile like that Getting ready for a little lunch Could be Mexico Lunch is almost ready back out on the road heading to "I don't know where" fishing for something.............? pulled by a motorbike roadside in Phnom Penh Phnom Penh Phnom Penh Phnom Penh daily traffic heading to work soaking it all in from a tuk tuks perspective I have a few more trips but they were back in the day of film and scanning is so much fun - stay tuned

dsfox 0 Posted September 10, 2012 Thats Awesome Dan..thanks for sharing it...I'd love to ride an adventure like that someday... I was close friends with a couple cambodian families back in lowell, ma near where I grew up...HUGE SE Asian community back there...most of them escaped from the khmer rouge with harrowing stories.......amazing happy people with such giving, gentle hearts.... The movie "The Killing Fields" gives a good account of what those people went through.....much like the holocaust...

Beezzz 6 Posted September 12, 2012 Wow!! Nice report. "True adventure riding" with plastic bag luggage and no destination planned. Very motivating. Well done. The rigging of the lugguage proves you have "rigger" DNA. We are staying tuned for the next chapter. Thanks for posting.
Riggerdan 147 Posted September 18, 2012 Not meant as downer...even MORE of a testament as to the heart and resilience of these people....amazing... I totally hear yaThe first time I was in Cambodia I have to admit, when the sun went down the hair on the back of my neck was feeling it.........nothing but dark and scary dirt roads, this trip was years later and a whole different experience Back then I met a kid who's whole family was taken down by the Khmer Rouge and grew up riding his bicycle making barely enough money to buy a motorbike and giving rides and running errands to barely stay alive I gave him a few bucks a day to just hang out and show me around a little, we ended up going to the Killing Fields together... needless to say it was one hell of an experience, witnessing an area where so many lives were taken it was heart breaking, nothing but massive burial ditches in the ground...and a big glass tower full of thousands of human skulls To go back a few years later meant a lot to me, for some reason to overcome the fears I once felt about this country ……On a brighter note this trip allowed me more interaction of the local customs and witness the good-hearted people that make this country so beautiful…here's a few more random pictures……hope you enjoy
DustyRock 0 Posted September 18, 2012 Very cool. My brother had orders to go to Nam in the 60s he has many pictures but the mood is certainly not the same as today. Always amazes me how clean people clothes are that really do not have the same amenities that we do.
Bagstr 288 Posted September 18, 2012 I love how the kid in the foreground is holding on to his brother. Seven kids, seven different responses to the alien in their presence.
