Why did I buy a place in Bullhead City, AZ.? .....because you can ride some awesome dirt in the morning and follow it up by chillaxn on the river in the afternoon.....

Kathy and I headed over to the Bullhead City house Friday night after work.......I headed out on the trail about ~7:30am on Sat morning......air temp ~70........I decided to stay close to home on Sat so I rode on the east side of the river between Bullhead City and Oatman.....I cruised out to a certain wash about ~10 minutes from the house and screwed around for bit......a few sights on the way out to the wash....

This make shift memorial is fairly new.....no idea what the story behind the photo.....it's along the main dirt road so I'm thinking head-on/accident

A few more scenic stops

Once you drop down from the ridges into the wash there are some BIG rock walls......reminds me of Fish Creek

IMAG0618.jpg

Then the wash narrows

IMAG0617.jpg

and narrows

IMAG0619.jpg

and eventually dead ends.....no way back up this drop riding solo

I was home by 9 for breakfast with Kathy......some friends stopped by for lunch/cocktails later......then we hit the river from ~4-7:30.......it was crazy hot out there this weekend......106 at 4pm when we dropped in the Seadoo.......the river is probably mid 50's but it felt great in that heat.....and we had it to ourselves since most had already taken out by ~5pm.....we stopped off at a few favorite spots for a dip/cold beer and eventually cruised down to the AVI resort.......we literally had the beach to ourselves as the sun began to fade around 6:30.......muy bueno......there was a classic car show surrounding the cove on Sat..

IMAG0633-1.jpg

Didn't see one boat/PWC on our way home at ~7pm........~7 miles of evening glass back to the boat ramp at Lazy Harry's Bar and Grill.......NICE!

Sunday......wow, Sunday morning's ride was AWESOME........I was out the door by 5:30.....I wanted to beat the heat and get in a ride on the west side of the river.......that meant I'd have to ride ~7 miles of slab to cross over at the AVI resort........I jetted up the river road to the point where it intersects the famed Mojave Rd.......I paused there and snapped the below pic at 6am....the sun was just starting to rise in the east from behind the distant hills surrounding Oatman:

IMAG0637.jpg

There's some fun single track paralleling the Mojave Road......the morning sun also provided some good light for my phone pics:

IMAG0640.jpg

This BIG rock is balancing on about a 1' diameter section of rock.....pretty cool.......good/secluded spot for camping in the winter months.....

IMAG0641.jpg

As stated, the morning light made for some good phone pics......cool shadow in the pic below.......at this point I was riding north from Mojave Rd. towards hwy 163 which connects 95 with Laughlin....most of my riding between Mojave Rd. and 163 was on single track.......sssshhhhh, it's a secret

IMAG0643.jpg

I had a great time on the 300 XCW......miles and miles of this....

IMAG0642.jpg

I was glad to have the 300 XCW when I arrived at some of the more technical sections........steep climbs/ridges.....a few climbs would've been a bit challenging on a heavier/knobbied bike......no sweat on the 300XCW....

IMAG0644.jpg

EPIC Section....

Steep climbs....

IMAG0645.jpg

Fun ridges.....

IMAG0646.jpg

Once I reached the 163 I headed south for a mile or two before jumping back off the highway onto a sandy BLM trail that paralleled the hwy......that BLM trail ran me down the OHV area.......there is some CRAZY fun stuff in this area......rode more phenomenal single track but only snapped one pic of the desert in bloom

IMAG0647.jpg

It's sort of a tradition for me to end rides on the west side of the river at a certain beach.......

IMAG0648.jpg

Once again I was home by 9am and the temp was probably in the mid 80's......by mid day it was up to 106 again......so we headed out onto the empty river around noon.......we set up on the beach across from the Mojave Road intersection I had been at ~6 hours earlier on the bike........the beach we set up at is directly below the remains of Fort Mojave on the east side of the river (check out the rock walls on the bluff)......we laid around, had a few beers, and ate some chicken salad sandwiches.......another fine day of morning moto followed by play time in the river.....

IMAG0649.jpg

Just got back to Ramona around 7pm tonight........52 and drizzly.......yuk.......can't wait to get back to the river again...

Love the place...Especially no helmet law and street legal ATVs all over and open carry of fire arms.

Good thing you went last week..This week is going to be a mess from Wednesday thru the weekend unless you are into this kinda thing..I went for 12 years straight and soooooo over it.

Why Bullhead City? Why not Lake Havasu? Seems they are equal distance away.

Maybe price. Amenities to the area like Laughlin or Avi. Trail riding knowledge. Arizona.

Havasu is actually closer........

Kathy's mother and sister both have vacation homes in Bullhead City. That was the main reason. And, as Steve said, real estate is pretty cheap in Bullhead City, Laughlin is across the river for entertainment and/or when guests are in town, the boat ramp at Lake Mojave is only ~15 minutes from my house (River is about 1 minute), and it's closer to Vegas/Grand Canyon if I choose to venture out on a road trip.

Lot's of great riding in the area......My place is about 7 miles north of the AVI Casino which is about the midpoint between the AVI and Laughlin. I can be out on some great trails east of the river in minutes......or on the west side of the river at the intersection of Mojave Road and the river road in ~20 minutes.....there's also a GREAT OHV area on HWY 163 west of Laughlin.......single track galore......and great riding on either side of Lake Mojave.......
