I can't see how that's possible, the I-15 on one side completely washed away. That's going to take a LONG time to fix. Maybe they'll have both ways of traffic on the Northbound lanes split by cones or something.

They will have to put it to one side. They will also have to take some time to see if what is there has been compromised and can handle the weight/ traffic. Good time to be a road builder.

I used to be a surveyor and worked a lot of road construction.. It's BAFFLING how fast they get stuff done when it's an emergency like this.. Standard 6 months tax payer milking job can be done in days or weeks when they NEED to get it done. Trust me!

Damage is pretty bad. They are talking about having ONLY ONE lane open in each direction in the next few days. This is the work around...totally bypasses Mesquite...

That northern detour is for folks coming out of Utah/Cedar City......the southern detour is for folks coming out of Vegas......need to roll through Valley of Fire and pop back out on 15........

Given the increased traffic density and longer distance, what's your best guess for increase in travel time to Mesquite?

Last few times I've been through that area, it was already a HUGE traffic jam. Cars backed up for miles on the Eastbound side.

My guesstimate is the 1.5 hour drive between Vegas and Mesquite could be as much as 2.5-3hrs (?)

I may head up that way this weekend from Bullhead.....95/515 (564/147/167/169)/15........the usual 2.5hr drive may be as much as ~3.5-4hrs(?)

I worked in this field for years.. Magic happens when things NEED to get done... The power of Vegas casino owners possibly losing tourism dollars, etc... I'll willing to bet the first round of drinks at the Tree Bar on it!

That and I15 is a major trucking corridor. My guess is they'll at least have a temporary fix.

Big day yesterday....drove from Bullhead to Mesquite.....rode over to Bar 10 and back with a friend from Vegas (Tim Barstow).......then drove back to Bullhead.....

Bottom line, recent storm had minimal impact on the trails/washes between Mesquite and the ranch.......easily reachable via bike or any 4WHL drive vehicle

I expected many of the washes to have 2-3'+ deep cuts from flash floods so I was packing a shovel on my bike to dig a drop slot......I was pleasantly surprised by the minimal impact of the recent storm...

An email I received 09/12 from a friend of mine in that part of town...

Better than a motorcycle trip.

And what a trip.....

THE DETOUR

I-15 was closed at the Valley of Fire Exit (by the "Native American" Casino, mile marker 75)

It was open again at the Overton / Logandale ramp. Mile Marker 93.

The detour is 45 miles long and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete.

(This weekend will be a nightmare) So add some time if taking the adventurous route.

Of course you get to drive this both ways on a round trip.

There were many exciting and informative signs along the way.

"Begin Scenic Route" Just perfect.

Many, and I mean MANY twisty road signs.

This road is a bad snake in need of a chiropractor.

And filled with anxious drivers.

Valley of Fire Permit Fee paid here.

This was stopped after the first day when the Park Rangers ran out of ammo defending themselves against outraged drivers. So drive through FREE now.

The merry twisty curvy drive continues for 20 miles through the valley passing large piles of cleverly named Red Rock formations. I suggest you take this drive when you have absolutely nothing do and want waste a perfectly good afternoon.

(Be prepared to drink heavily after completing this drive.)

You may notice as you are on this drive and look all the way to the mountains or horizons in ALL directions, there is NOTHING ELSE. It is nowhere and then some.

Taking a left turn at the entrance to the Lake Mead recreational entrance lets you begin more twists and turns and leaving you wishing you will see civilization again.

After many more miles you see these fun filled signs....

Looking across the road in these little dips you see giant carved out gulleys that must get a little water in them when it rains.

And then my favorite vertical sign. Sitting in a poured concrete base mounted on a heavy pole and leaning in what must be downstream direction.

And someone as a joke I am sure smeared mud along the 4' marker. Ha! Ha!

Eventually just past East Jesus you begin to pass a few worn out Trailer homes.

These are placed up on high knolls to get a better view of nothing I am sure.

Or a better look at gulleys when they become exciting after a rain.

LOOK... LOOK... A convenience store.

Guns, Ammo, Bait, and Beer.

Oh my, how did we get to Alabama so fast????

The next curve is taken and you see the "Golden Arches" McDonalds...

Civilization at last!!!

Going through Overton and then Logandale is quite fun.

35 mph and 25 mph signs.

Anxious freeway drivers line up to race around the cars ahead of them and gain a 100' advantage.

And the local Sheriff's take most of these drivers off the road to give them a courtesy lecture

(and a BIG ticket) for their foolish moves.

These local departments will make their yearly budgets in the next few weeks.

Do NOT miss the thrill of this adventure until I-15 is repaired.
