kkug 146 Posted September 9, 2013 For the younger( or older ) guys in our club who may not know of our guest speaker Mark Kariya I asked him to give us a little background. For years and years going to watch races I have many times seen Mark on the sidelines snaping photos. He has been at it for awhile !! " As for background, I got my journalism degree in '78 from USC; originally was a cinema major but switched before my junior year. Started freelancing for Cycle News covering CMC MX at Saddleback and Carlsbad after my senior year. Worked for the Vivitar camera company for a little over a year after graduating (while still doing the freelance CMC stuff for Cycle News), then took a position as associate editor at the beginning of 1980. Worked at Cycle News for a couple years then when former editor Charlie Morey started Dirt Rider, he called and asked me to join him, which I did in the middle of '82. First issue of Dirt Rider was DEC '82 and I was there until getting laid off (due to Petersen Publishing selling its publishing empire and the resultant round of corporate downsizing) in OCT '96. Been freelancing ever since and enjoying it. Mark " Thanks Mark
