Dan Diego 40 Posted October 22, 2016 This came from a KLR650 site, NOT an SDAR member. Doesn't appear to be any injuries, just a motorcycle (likely a KLR 650) down the side of a mountain. Here's the Kawasaki KLR 650 Owners site message I received: <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fklrmoto%2Fpermalink%2F10155385722772468%2F&width=500" width="500" height="218" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe> EMERGENCY SITUATION ON BIG BEAR MOUNTAIN. WE WERE RIDING AND ONE BIKE WENT OFF THE RIDGE. WE NEED HELP GETTING IT BACK UP. THE FOREST SERVICE WILL NOT HELP AND WE ARE OUT OF OPTIONS. THE ROAD IS NO 4 WHEEL ACCESSIBLE. I WILL BUY YOU DINNER OR FUEL. ANYTHING. JUST ASKING FOR SOME HELP!!!!! <iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fgroups%2Fklrmoto%2Fpermalink%2F10155385722772468%2F&width=500" width="500" height="218" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

Dan Diego 40 Posted October 23, 2016 I'm a bit frustrated that they never responded to the initial request for assistance with contact info, location and final resolution. Grrrrrrrrrr.........
Oracle 195 Posted October 23, 2016 Yeah, totally uncool for someone to post that and then never update the post.

There's a conversation going on about this right now. In short, the rider who posted--then deleted--the emergency call for help is being roundly chastised by the other KLR owners... darylhunter 1 Posted November 3, 2016 I keep a flat tow strap in my backpack and a couple of carabiners. While they have drag over a real pulley, you can construct a functional equivalent which really helps to reduce the effort required drag a heavy bike up hill. I have a 9000 lb winch on my jeep, but I also keep a snatch block with me too to help.
darylhunter 1 Posted November 4, 2016 BTW, there are a lot of videos and pictures of how to set up the pulley system using carabiners, but thought I'd post one that I found that helps to illustrate how it's done. Normally, pulling a bike up hill you wouldn't use the last loop through.
Zubb 1061 Posted November 4, 2016 Hmmmm. I think I need to assemble a kit for this use. don't know that I'll ever need it, but I can just imagine needing it badly and not having it.
Mr.JAJA 380 Posted November 4, 2016 I even have build a "lift up" boom. Never used it yet and hope that I never need it. The white pole with a pulley system. And did you spot the 3 CARABINER? The rope is in the front fender bag.
Getsmacked440 0 Posted November 4, 2016 I've thought about investing in one of these. Light weight super strong. Have 2 of them and could really lighten the load. Paired with some spectra or at least para cord. Expensive tho. Seen some cheap knock offs on ebay but they're not titanium. https://www.ti2design.com/ti2-para-biner-pb-9-sae

Dan Diego 40 Posted November 4, 2016 And along those lines, "Sorry I was being stupid...but you know it's what I do." Honest to the death. http://metro.co.uk/2016/10/29/man-records-goodbye-video-to-loved-ones-after-bike-crash-6222400/ “'Hey everybody — I f**ked up,' he says in one of the videos recorded on October 15. “That's all I can really say. At about 10:30 this morning. Been laying here ever since. About 50 feet down in the ravine. I just wanted to say I love you guys. Sorry I was being stupid, but you know that’s what I do.” http://www.ksat.com/inside-edition/man-records-video-he-thinks-may-be-his-last-after-motorcycle-crash-sorry-i-was-being-stupid_
Avocado 0 Posted November 4, 2016 I have had this in my phone for the last 5 years. Big Bear Recovery 909-222-0265. Met him at a coffee shop in BB one morning. Well equipped Jeep, knew every trail up there. Not going to even comment on the KLR rider.

Came in handy few years back in Big Bear......end of a long day of riding, super beat, improper gearing, climbing through a chunky section, started to get wheel spin, then she hooked up, bike rocketed out from under me and down into a ravine, about 20 feet. Took us 2 hours to haul that pig out. We saw jeepers all day long on the trail with the exception of that 2 hour window.
