Riggerdan 147 Posted April 14, 2015 Baja Another safe and successful ride south of the border with SDAR's finest Day 1 Crossed the border with a nice cruise through northern tecate onto the Compadre trail with a few variations we worked our way through Laguna Hanson fueled up with some gas, tacos and a cold beverage at the Saw Mill. Onward through VT & the back way into Mikes made a left after the stream crossing and worked our way to the Meling Ranch for a nice quiet night of pool and homemade cocktails, it was a nice change of pace from another night at Mikes now $80 per person. It was a full day of riding and proved to be a little more challenging then expected. Day 2 Left Meling Ranch and headed for San Quintin, rode along the observatory road for a few miles then dropped in to the dirt. Great terrain variety with lots of good scenic riding into Vicente Guerrero for fuel and agua. With a cool ocean breeze we were close to the pacific.... instead of riding white sandy beaches into SQ we headed back out into the hills for another 100 miles that dropped us at the entrance of Fidels Camp about 10 miles south of Santa Maria Hotel. It was a hard 100 miles and the beach was a welcomed sight. We rolled into Ceilito Lindo hotel/bar tired Baja riders. We were welcomed with 5 margaritas, chips & salsa and a friendly vibe - actually I don't remember much more then that... Day 3 Woke up to beautiful blue skies, birds chirping and the sounds of waves crashing on the beach. We explored the volcanos and everything in and around them before we set off on miles of white sandy beach riding. Ducked back in at Vicente Guerrero to fuel up after all the volcanic exploration had a few tacos and we were off again. We got to Erindira and decided to slab it to the wine road and fuel up in San Vicente along the way, a fast paced ride through the hills got us to MSR earlier then expected where we came across Bruce's group of banditos relaxing poolside telling epic trail stories of their adventures A few beers a steak dinner and we were done for the night. Day 4 Had a casual start and took the Simpson trail out back to VT to warm up the bones a little, fueled up the machines and off we went into the hills heading norte to the border passing Caselli & Dana memorials along the way Rolled across the border intact with no problems or drama, it felt good to be back home. I have no documentation but rumor has it each bike had a very breif nap, minimal mechanicals along the way nothing serious GPS shows 758 miles of Baja riding.... could not of asked for a better group to cover ground with, very appreciative of everyones good attitude, experience & riding ability as the trail had its demanding moments. I'll load up pictures shortly, didn't not take as many as usual - most of them were on the pre run to help paint the dream Thanks again and look forward to the next one -- Rigger

Riggerdan 147 Posted April 15, 2015 Not sure where that 88.6 came from usually don't ride that fast, maybe it was heading to the Meling from Mikes....? In motion for 27 hrs on a stock seat - I think its time I call Seat Concepts
Bp619 107 Posted April 15, 2015 My garmin will throw random 90+ mpg top speeds all the time I think it's speed plus like a big whoop or lip that jars the bike where the bike moves really fast for a split second. Nice overall speed too almost 30 pH for 27 hours 9 stock seat ur crazy
Bagstr 288 Posted April 15, 2015 Rigger, You know your Spot showed a "Stop" about 10 am Day 2. Off for a day or more. Luckily, Tracy was good so I did not call out the Federales.
Riggerdan 147 Posted April 15, 2015 My batteries expired mid trip, I think I'm sold on the Delorme as well Thought I'd be slick and pick one up at rei with my div and 20% but those gps items are not eligible for a discount...
Bagstr 288 Posted April 15, 2015 What is Your Rate for a text on the trail?? Sorry to hear about the CID photo embargo. Do we need to make banners and march or what? I haven't been in the street for awhile, time to mobilize.
