moto_rph 177 Posted July 4, 2022 Greetings and Happy 4th, I thought I would beat some of my riding partners to the punch with respect to a ride report....I'm sure they will be able to supply additional information and photos (i.e. pile on) once they see this. A few of us, including @shutterrev, @Hawkins and a couple of others (Scott and Max) decided to celebrate EARLY, by meeting at the south end of Grapevine Canyon, close to the Yaqui Pass entrance from the 78. KSU at 8am and ride up through Grapevine , catch Old Culp and exit on S22. A quick run down Montezuma to the Red Ocotillo for breakfast. Sounds like a plan! Prior to the ride (while at home, under the influence of air conditioning), there were thoughts of riding out to Fonts Point post breakfast. Cooler (hotter?) heads prevailed, so we decided to simply go back and reverse our route. That worked out great for me since I was the only one with a trailer queen. (KTM 500)....riding that from Fallbrook to and fro??? Nope, not me Anyway, great times had by all and I bet @shutterrev and/or @Hawkins will provide additional commentary.... A great way to start the 4th! Perry
Hawkins 237 Posted July 4, 2022 Today was a great ride indeed! Thanks to our perennial navigator, @shutterrev, we didn’t get lost nor did we have to backtrack. How does he remember so many trails‽ Maybe each new trail he learns makes him taller. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @moto_rph is lightning fast, especially when he’s on a perfect-for-arid-trails KTM 500EXC-F with brand new Motoz Tractionator Desert H/T - same tires I ride on! Amazing in dirt but _loud_ on the road. My first time in desert-esque sand and I must say, the Africa Twin’s size & weight combined with my own lack of experience made for a challenging ride. I came off the bike three times though only one of those was anything serious. I’ll likely hold off on more sand rides until I have a dedicated dirt bike. Bikes: can’t have just 3! Max ran into the same big-bike problems that I did, and took a few tumbles as a result. Dude is a machine and kept getting back in the saddle. Looking forward to seeing the video and pics from @shutterrev!
shutterrev 469 Posted July 5, 2022 Good ride and Happy 4th to all! We rode Grapevine, and Old Culp, then after having some lunch at Red Ocotillo, reversed tracks. A friend Scott, on his 690 joined us for the ride out, and Max joined us as Red Ocotillo for the reverse track.

Bub_Hannah 174 Posted July 6, 2022 Nice! Due to schedule conflicts, I missed out on DSMs 7/2 ride. I got out for a bit myself on the 3rd though. I hit Tecate Peak.

Zubb 1061 Posted July 6, 2022 I didn’t follow your link but assume there’s a bit of light pollution from Tecate nearby. It is a very cool peak though with 360* views. A moonless night outside Borrego Springs is usually quite memorable. But I’m sure you knew that.

I have to bookmark that. Looks like the northwest side of the peak is pretty dark.
