97xr400r 122 Posted May 7, 2020 Better late than never...It's been a year now. This was the first camp trip off the SE. General plan was to work my way to Tecopa via trails shown on California trail map avoiding pavement as time and provisions allowed. It turned out to be a great ride with awesome weather. Just shy of 800 Miles with a section of the cabdr out of Tecopa. Narrowly missed that nasty storm that Dan and LB got caught up in. Memorable highlights: Numb hands going through big bear Uncomfortably steep loose single track Trophy truck sized whoop section Speedrun on dry lake bed Sand dunes at sunset Hot spring at sunrise Surprise Joshua tree Forest Bumping into a friend of a friend in the middle of the desert Getting stuck in the bottom of a narrowing wash Overwhelming fragrance of desert lilies And of course it wouldn't be an adventure ride without the abandoned vehicle photo op! I'd like to get a ride of this nature together this year... Maybe make our way to Kernville to say hi to the big trees?

It was new to me, I had just finished going through it. Had some flawless local shakedown runs under it's belt and wanted to stretch the legs. Oh and the 650R was down with worn out valves. 5 hours ago, ADV Bum said: Nice write up. Is that BP619's SE? I would be interested in the future ride. Hah, actually it's CID's ol bike. I didn't know it at the time, I got it from the guy cid sold it to. Everybody I've run into that HAS owned one wishes they still had it... It's a surprisingly different feeling bike from the 990A I had. Amazing DS motorcycle, especially if your the one working on it, simple mega dirt bike. Your welcome to ride it! There's actually some popping up for sale these days I think due to the 790.

It was a nice change of pace to just be able to follow the bdr route on the 3rd day. It gets tiring trying to navigate and ride all day after day, fun and surprising though. I wish I had recorded it, I'm trying to be better about that.

Another one of the bikes I regret selling. I tried to buy it back when it went up for sale but Jon beat me to it. He got a good deal on a great bike. Every time I see one of these out it it’s natural environment I get jealous that it’s not me out there. Great write up, glad to see it went to someone who is using it.
