Cold beer at camp? You bet!

Recommended Posts

If your like us one thing that has been a problem is trying to enjoy a cold refreshment at camp after a long day on the trails. We typically get gas some time during the day so that is the one opportunity to pick up some beer. Problem is trying to get it back to camp cold and in one piece - hauling a 6 or 12 pack over 50-100 miles of trail is not an easy task. Then in the AM when trying to pack out our trash we have to deal with all the empties which is just as bad.

We just got back from 4 days of riding and camping the Lost Coast area of NorCal which was a great time (ride report to follow). Well this trip we tried a new solution and it worked great! It kept the beer (5 beers per stainless steel growler) cold and fresh all day. We used an insulated bag from Maxexpedition which is the most expensive part but worth it. Just fill your growler at the store during the day and leave the empty bottles there.

There is another bag on Ebay that is cheaper and looks good but the bottle does not fit - do NOT buy this one (like I did):

You can see it here strapped in front of my tail bag at Shelter Cove Beach

Arnie, saw your reference to this earlier and actually have a stainless one delivering today! Glad it worked so well for you. I'm sure the investment was well worth it when you had cold beer at the end of a long day. :)

Thanks for the recommendation on the bag. For now I plan on using it in another capacity, but good to know I can strap it on a bike too.

Tim

Edit: Bag on amazon too: http://www.amazon.com/Maxpedition-12-Inch-5-Inch-Bottle-Holder/dp/B001CDJB1I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1432661461&sr=8-2&keywords=insulated+bottle+holder+tactical

I've seen the Maxpedition bags at WalMart. Hmmm...

Also, one of our own (Jerry/556 baller) makes some similar tac bags.

Jerry?

That's very self centered, what did everyone else drink?

Mine just showed up today. Looking forward to some cold beers.. the Maxexpedition bag is pretty cool. Lots of ways to attach it to your set up with all the MOLLE straps.

Afry,

Are you suggesting you don't like the "more expensive painted version" ??

I was under the impression that most people like the "more expensive version" of most off-road gear.

Bagstr

P.S. I know I do.
