Ocotillo Wells and Borrego Springs

Recommended Posts

Zancat and I met Bikeslut, The Oracle, 1K Step, XR650lNoob, Kato (I think), Spank, BillP, Doctor Z, and two other riders for a run through Ocotillo Wells and Borrego Springs. We did the Goat Trail, Buttes Pass, the Slot and San Felipe Wash as a group, then Zancat, The Oracle, BillP, Doctor Z, and I took off for Borrego Springs via Milpais and Fonts Point. The Borrego riders did about 82 miles by my GPS.

Sorry if I left anyone out of the list. My memory is almost as bad as my riding skills.

Some amateur images of the day's activities.

I had an absolute blast today! Company was great, weather was great, conditions were great!

Thanks for the ride out and back Hayseed. Nice pics too.

Alien poop fossilized. :heh:/> Or just water erosion. Yeah, probably Aliens.

Anyway, glad you guys made it out to the pumpkin patch, now there are more people to show me where it is.

Wish I could have made it, but the family time was a good exchange.

So I hear there are talks about a ride out east next MONDAY (18th)!!!! I'm lurking.

Pictures will have to wait a few days- as soon as I got home my wife took me shopping for new chairs- then we had to make room by removing two couches, now...I'm ready to pass out

I want to thank everybody for showing up, sharing lead/sweep roles and being flexible with the plans

After the fast guys went off to Malpais, the rest of us hit some of the popular sights- everybody rode great- Axel dumped it once, Spank lost traction on a climb and had a small spill

I got a flat at Shell reef- playing around on an easy hill climb, I center punched a sharp rock- thanks Ahmed for being the human kickstand

The major de-noobing of the day HAS to go to Kato! He rode in, through the snow and ice at 6 o clock...then attacked everything in front of him...flying around shell reef, bombing the whoops, manhandling the KLR in the sand...then rode home! His first time to the desert! Stud!

"The major de-noobing of the day HAS to go to Kato!"

Ouch, that is always a painful operation.

Made a loop through the OHV Park talking to myself on the radio with an eye out for the group. Didn't hit Goat Trail and Blowsand Drop 'till 10.

With the low / no dust situation, in was hard to pick out a group or riders at distance. Visited Pumpkin then returned

to Ranger Station via the cross country trail North of Squaw Peak to your trucks. Didn't think to roll down to the Expressway.

Glad you had a good day.

Sorry we missed you bagstr- first time loading my bike on the back of Axels van, and it took a while, so we got a late start

Then hit snow and ice on Sunrise, so lost some time there

So we got started a little late- then missed a turn on the way to the slot, and ended up getting back to the trucks for the 9 o clock ride at 9:40 (BillP was about to give up on us)

I knew if we ran up to mEet you @ Buttes, the odds of you being there were slim to none. Knowing you are an experienced desert rat, I figgered to would find a way to enjoy yourself- sorry we missed you

I would like to join one of your tamarisk based rides sometime

I love SDAR. Each time I join in on a ride, I meet great new people. Today was no exception. I had a blast riding with Arnie, Loren, Mike and Bill on our ride to the

lookout points and to Borrego for a burrito. Hey Bill, sorry we didn't say goodbye. We thought you were coming back by the trucks!

Until next time, keep the rubber side down.

Dennis

BS,

I knew it would be tough to link up. 0800 was Not in my playbook. That is why it is called a Playbook. laugh.gif

It is sometimes cool to cruise around, free to stop for photos on your own.

Let me know when you can get free and we will do Tamarisk Grove, Culp etc. I have 80 -100 miles you

might like.

What a great ride and a great group of riders.

Got my crash for the day out of the way in the first 10 minutes. Only my pride was hurt. Those handguards proved their worth again. (got it on video too lol)

There's always great views on the drive out, but I usually forget to take photos. Not this time.

Cell phone photos from the drive out from Oceanside.

Yes, you did! Ocotillo Wells is always good fun

YUP!

Ocotillo Wells is Green Sticker heaven Bob. Sorry I couldn't make it. My brother and I have been riding our Huskys there since the 70's. Only 90 minutes from Escondido. I ride there at least once a month, even solo. Always pleasant if you can avoid the crowds. I prefer the east end around Pole Line Road. Maby next time.

Spank,

Love a guy who takes the time to stop the truck, step outside to compose a shot. Nice saturation,,,with the real camera.

After gearing and tire change, the new seat from Seat Concepts was the next best mod I've done to my bike.
