So....who's up for a little Saturday McCain?

Recommended Posts

The usual time, I'm thinkin'....tennish. The usual place....the picnic tree. The usual route....there is no "usual" route, other than calling it the route of 1000 turns. Not too much technical, nice scenery, good workout etc.

I'm going to try and make it. Been wanting to ride there again for a while. Fighting a cold/flu right now so will have to see how I feel on Friday/Saturday before I can commit for sure.

It'll be a bit brisk if you are two wheeling over to the staging area. Most of the trail riding will keep you fairly warm, though.

mimi is totally right... I've never been cold there, even when riding in snow. The wind can get to you up on the ridge, but singletrack will keep you toasty.

hands might get cold too I guess

Two years ago we were up there in about 8in. of snow it was the hardest and best riding I had done . Work my ass off paddling like a duck. There were 3 of us on bikes and left 6 tire tracks. Not seeing the roughts made riding more like reacting.I got so hot from working was soaking wet from sweat so didn't dare stop until we were done.

3 words cold dry weather, 3 more words cold wet weather, 2 words Elefant Ears (by MSR).

Things are really, really good to keep in your pit box for use when needed.

doubtful for more than a few inches of white stuff if any, but still, really cold temps in the forecast. have fun keep warm. (Dai remembers this day!!)

I just use Polarpaws (just got the replacements for the ones I lost last weekend), and in really severe cold, I use the Antifreeze gloves. The Antifreeze model gloves are so dang warm, that it better literally be freezing out when I wear them. or else my hands actually get too hot!

Hello,

I would like to come for this ride, but where is McCain? :-)

I am in San Marcos and need to figure out how to get there. Anyone else going from San Marcos going to this ride?

It is out near Boulevard in east county. It's about 82 miles from Escondido. Take the 15 south, to 8 east (or cut mileage off by taking a shortcut over to highway 67, then Lake Jennings drive to I-8), next exit past the Golden Acorn casino is Ribbonwood. Right on Ribbonwood, left on Old Highway 80, left on McCain Valley road. Staging area (has sign) will be about 5 miles in on the left.

So now it's down to the night before the ride, and it doesn't look like I have any solid commitments from other riders yet.

Well, if anybody is going, I'll see you in the morning. I'll probably have either the WR300 or the KDX220 for the day's ride.
