  5. For the 4th of July, Kim and I did a ride up Little mountain which is not too far south of my place. Friends were camping for the holiday weekend up there, so we took our DS bikes up for a little socializing and consuming of grilled hamburgers. On the way, we stopped at an old homestead to have a peeky-see around. It was not right at the road's edge and a gully and creek separated us from the ruins, so we had to trudge in on foot, in our riding boots....an adventure, to be sure. After that side trip we made it to the top of the mountain, where it became evident that weather was going to move in sooner or later. Luckily, it was later, but we still cut our route short to make sure we were exposed to as little inclement weather as possible on our return trip...and by inclement weather, I mean lightning. It was pretty warm on the way back, and we were often under the cloud cover. There were squall lines all around us, but except for a few random sprinkles, we were spared any extracurricular storming. It was an excellent way to spend the fourth.

    Friday morning ride.

Either or, you ride the 901 like the 450 anyway!
  11. I am. Should I bring the 450 or the 901?
  12. I plan on riding Friday 18 July morning a easy round in the north / east county Possible some easy Dirt, with street connections. Think of starting in Lakeside, Alpine, Viejas grade, Boulder creek, Southland dam, Old Santa Isabel truck trail and up to PARTY POINT in Ramona. Getting a pastry and coffee at Dudley in Santa Isabel. Some adjustments can be made on the fly, like Measa Grande, Black canyon. Anyone interested?
  13. Have been rocking the 450  a bit as of late.  It's so much fun.  Went out again this morning to get a few hours in on Otay Mtn with a friend before the heat hit.

My ride buddy today told me about his "trouble" last Wednesday though.  But I'll start with my experiences last Sunday.

Last Sunday I took my visiting son out to show him the border wall.  We switched into Adventure mode at Pio Pico and as luck would have it there was a BP just opening the gate as we pulled up.  He was cordial as always, but warned the gate would be locked when we returned to wich I said "no worries", we were going out via the gun club road.  Encountered 6 or 8 BP rigs along the way, and all were friendly as is typical.

View from the Otay Towers up top looking west toward the ocean ...  look at those islands in the sky below us.

Saw 4 more BP jeeps/trucks so far in this short ride.  All friendly.

    Onward toward Tecate, then Campo.

Nothing unusual, all good and friendly.

Fast forward 3 days to Wednesday and my friend rode the wall between the west entrance of Otay TT and Marron Valley and out at Barrett Junction.

He was stopped 8 times by BP, all with angry attitudes, some blocking the road with their trucks, and threats of fines up to $1000.  Even though he was allowed to proceed "this time", He was eventually detained and waited for a captain to arrive and was then escorted out to the highway.  My friend is not a jerk.  He's polite and considerate like most of us are.  So I don't blame him for the negative encounters even though I wasn't there.

This is a pretty dramatic change from years past ... even from as late as Sunday morning.

I'm just saying, I plan to stay off the wall, at least for now and until I hear further from BP.

Soooooo, today we just hit up a bunch of trails on Otay that we've never explored before.  There's some good stuff up there!  We encountered 1 BP near the Pink Gate but didn't stop to talk.  In hind sight, I wish I would have.

Temps weren't horrible as we hit dirt at 8am and ended back at HY94 around 11:30.
