Reximus may chime in here, but we tried it and there wasn't a way. At least we couldn't find one.

It's a problem of geography, not of locked gates.

But if there's a route, I'd like to try it.

I'd try it with you, DD.

How about one of you southerners put together an intermediate and up big bike ride for next weekend. I need to get down that way soon.

Yeah, the route from the Tecate POE out to Jacumba is pretty cool.

There are secondary routes to the side of the actual border road if that is too tame.

I saw earlier posts about trying to ride over Tecate Peak.  It did not appear to be possible.  The route I am looking at goes around it by hopping on Hwy 94 for a bit and then back to dirt on the east side.  Looks doable if the Border Patrol is friendly.

Heading out to Campo after Tecate, which is easy.

Could shoot up Tecate Peak too from the east.

That's the trick, right there. It's what Reximus and I did.

And in my experience, the BP guys are real sweethearts.

I would be in for this. I need more seat time on the 990.

I might be confused.

The ride east of Tecate is fun, and I've done it several times.

West out of Tecate along the border has always (for me) been a non-starter.

That's exactly it. The west side can be fun but it's not a "through" venture.

Nice job taking it into the sand. I am not there yet. I can barely touch the ground on this bike. The height and the weight is Fn with me. I am trying to get a lower seat and hopefully that will help. I like all the travel and ground clearance, but it would be nice to be flat footed like the guy behind you!

Yeah...paying the price for that decision.

Everytime I cough, sneeze or roll over in the nightime. Despite how it looks, that silt is VERY deep, and it was not an easy, gentle tipover.

Road Construction is done in Tecate, central plaza is real nice. My experiance is BP are always nice but will point out that there is a lot of private land and BLM that they use,  none of it is theirs.  Tecate peak is tribal land if I remember correctly. Next time I am over there I will investigate the route.

Just motor politely past the house immediately when you turn off 94. There is quad track EVERYWHERE. As you follow the border fence eastward, be sure to turn north before you are about 500 yards west of the POE. Its not illegal area, just a dead end.
