kkug 147 Posted June 17, 2014 As last year the E mails went out and only us three could make it this year. The plan was to drive to Gallop NM .unload ride south then north into CO on the CDR. Then loop around and back to NM to Gallop. We did that ,good weather, only two flats ( both at the same stop ) camped off the bikes three of the four nites, some closed mtn passes ( but we got around ) Some rain and sleet ( only for a few hours ) it was a good trip. Stopped in Winslow Meteor Crater Had a good meal after the 649 mile drive --Thanks Chris for driving This guy was stairing at Chris all nite long !
kkug 147 Posted June 19, 2014 Ok after the thrid try and black holes I am back. The next morning we parked the truck at the airport. We headed south ,met up with the CDT and rode north to Grants NM. Late afternoon we passed threw Cuba and camped just east of their. Bandera Ice Caves -- Wide open spaces !! We stopped at a ranch-it was hot.

Bagstr 288 Posted June 19, 2014 DynOmite!! I concede, the trip did happen. Green is good. It is refreshing to know green exists outside the SoCal Dez. CID's pack set-up is looking clean.... A GL plus one bag is hard to achieve on the trail. Sorry to not see Ol' Red on the trail. Congratulations on Another Adventure, Bagsr
Bagstr 288 Posted June 19, 2014 Riggerdan, What's your lame excuse for Not making the Adventure? Oh, wait, I am opening myself up here. Sorry to miss out as These Trips are terrific because: A. The excitement of watching Kug play Ward Bond "Trail Boss". B. Sundown Camp Searches C. Sunrise warm-up coffee. D. Riding over a rise to see the Whole world open before you. kkug 147 Posted June 20, 2014 now we are talking "green". i don't know how you make it back and leave all that green. what area was your favorite? My favorite was this part. The roads are rolly polly and in good shape. This area is west of Los Alamos and Espanola. Santa Fe Nat Forest. Realy need to go back and explore camp in this area.Unreal how green it was --almost too bright in some areas.
kkug 147 Posted June 20, 2014 More Green We stoped in El Rito for lunch. Very old small villiage --a throw back in time.
kkug 147 Posted June 20, 2014 Ooops--Chris has a soft front--Oh mine rear is flat,Tracy your Dirt Bag frame broke again ? So we had a time out with full bellies--some repairs to be done . Hour + later and we were on our way. WOW !! We were running late so we had to miss a good section of this part of the ride. We needed to get to a town to stock up on water ( ) We camped out at Truijillo Meadows Res.( just North of Chama NM on the CO boarderline ) Huge campground but at one time a forest fire come threw so it was a bit sparse but it still had good views. In the morning it was -- So that was the end of two days of riding . Next CO
Bagstr 288 Posted June 20, 2014 Evidently that is the eastern section of the "Burr" Trail. New Mexico has some hidden gems, I agree. That plus the cultural influence of the Pueblo and Spanish (from Spain) people creates a unique world. tntmo 910 Posted June 20, 2014 Looks beautiful. I think a lot of us need to quit making excuses and get out for a ride like this. It's good for your soul (or lack thereof).
