dsfox 0 Posted July 29, 2013 What A Week! I needed an extended riding trip...and Utah and the Arizona Strip never disappoint...well worth the 8-10 hours each way...... Spent 3 days Northeast of Zion National Park, riding the dixie national forest, with views of utah's fantastic red rock cliffs and formations, aspen forests, pasturelands, lava beds........ Followed by 2 days camped on the north rim of the grand canyon, 75 miles from the closest civilization....a .primitive, rugged place, extreme in beauty and danger, with a mystical appeal, hard to explain..... And of course the best part of these adventures, are the amazing friends we share them with.......the picnic tables out on the rim state that the sites are to be shared by: "friends, family, social groups and "INTERNET AFFILIATES"....which made us all laugh, realizing, "THAT'S WHAT WE ARE". Big Thanks to all my riding friends.....who are some of the greatest people I've ever known......Thank you guys, for sharing this adventure... I can't begin to share all the amazing circumstances that fell into place for us.........but have to say the violent lightning storms literally surrounding us 360 degrees, on the rim of the grand canyon and giving a show like no other...BUT.....we never got rained on....nothing short of a miracle...what a sight to see..... FLYING MONKEY ADVENTURE RALLY, ZION PONDEROSA RESORT and beyond. (capncham, tlking6, bigwvjumper, hodnettjj, snowaviation, dr. j) poor dr. J broke his boot the 1st day riding....guess if your foot gets caught between a KLR and a boulder, the foot looses...sorry jon.... that was our only incident the whole trip.... dsfox 0 Posted July 29, 2013 ARIZONA STRIP AND TOROWEEP (tlking6, bigwvjumper, hodnettjj and I rode out, under the cool protection of cloud cover, which was one of those pleasant and welcome circumstances in July in Arizona)....maniac, maggie and limping dr. J drove the support truck out....VERY NICE to have the truck carry water, food, gas and gear......Thanks Ian...... WE ALSO ENCOUNTERED NO deep silt beds, and no mud bogs, which the ranger warmed, almost ALWAYS plague the last 7 miles to the campground at the rim......heavy rain the day before was just enough to make the road perfect for travel. CAMP, we had the place ALLL to ourselves....(until 1 jeeper came late).....otherwise it was ours..... The VIEW from camp.....not bad to wake up to...

dsfox 0 Posted July 29, 2013 The Storms at night....couldn't catch on film.....but SUNRISE was fantastic...worth the 5:20 wake up and hurried half mile hike to the rim Until Next time....

poboyblues 0 Posted August 6, 2013 Beautiful place. I was there camping out of my 72 Toyota Land Cruiser back in 1990. Camped in the same place. It looks so familiar still. The feeling of going right up to that rim of the canyon is like no other...
