think I found the problem

This is actually good news. No case splitting, etc. If I buy the part new, it's less than $80. No shrapnel tossed around in the crankcase, etc.

Man, cracked gears, spun clutch hubs......you need a torque dial on that thing.

Great that you don't have to split the cases.

Kind of the opposite of bikeslut's bike, he had something that was supposed to be in two pieces but got turned into one.

Paul

I missed you guys in Page by a week. I was there this past weekend and Gawin said you guys stopped by his shop and he told me about your mechanical problems. I think he would appreciate a copy of this photo. As you might expect, he is not a big fan of KTM. I would at least be interested in his opinion as to how it happened. Even though he is biased towards Honda he is an old desert racer and knows bikes well. You can reach him here

......you need a torque dial on that thing.

Got one. It's on the handlebar on the right side.

Twist for increased torque.

Just got off the phone with Rekluse, the maker of that part- they will replace it free! I even bought the clutch used from a buddy, and they were damn cool about it.

My mistake, you have already been there, done that! (Edit)

Looks like a Rekluse Moment.

Not to be devious but, If you need to pay for repairs....Why not repair it big time? Small check, big check, what's the difference?

Brilliant. I'll mention it to my wife and get her opinion.

I'll get back to you on that...

which is how this whole business starts... your motor is a torque monster, and you twist it every chance you get

motorcycles are machines- they break... unfortunately, they always seem to break at bad times... like when you are riding them

at any rate; new clutch basket and you're ready to roll... hhhmmmm... what to break next? We have rear sprocket, front sprocket, bottom end, MT43... what else?

HMMMMMM..... OK, my 1985 Honda XL350R has been all over the area Paul rode last week, many times. So far I have only needed to change oil and tires. When can I expect it to BREAK!!!! :torch:

And I suspect if we were riding in the style of a 1985 Honda XL350R, mine might not have broken.

Or I may have fallen asleep at the controls.

So then what would be the point riding your KTM there rather than a motorcross track?

So then what would be the point riding your KTM there rather than a motorcross track?

Wow.

Never thought of it that way. It's so clear now- and brilliant.

I'm going to sell right away. It's obviously pointless to continue. It's the logic- it's so clear to me now.

Only the 1985 Honda XL350 is the perfect bike. It's suspension, it's torque and horsepower. My bike is suitable only for a motocross track. It's wrong, wrong for any other purpose. Only the Honda XL350 should be used for any purpose other than motocross. KTMs are permitted for motocross, but not any other purpose.

I've seen the light, I'm thus redeemed, and I beg forgiveness for my previously misguided life. I endeavor to continue on the path to the righteous.

And thank you.

GO!

I'm gonna wake you up early

Cause I'm gonna take a ride with you

We're going down to the Honda shop

I'll tell you what we're gonna do

Put on a ragged sweatshirt

I'll take you anywhere you want me to

First gear (Honda Honda) it's alright (go faster faster)

Second gear (little Honda Honda) I lean right (go faster faster)

Third gear (Honda Honda) hang on tight (go faster faster)

Faster it's alright

It's not a big motorcycle

Just a groovy little motorbike

It's more fun that a barrel of monkeys

That two wheel bike

We'll ride on out of the town

To any place I know you like

First gear (Honda Honda) it's alright (go faster faster)

Second gear (little Honda Honda) I lean right (go faster faster)

Third gear (Honda Honda) hang on tight (go faster faster)

Faster it's alright

It climbs the hills like a matchless

Cause my Honda's built really light

When I go into the turns

Lean [Tilt] with me and hang on tight

I better turn on the lights

So we can ride my Honda tonight

First gear (Honda Honda) it's alright (go faster faster)

Second gear (little Honda Honda) I lean right (go faster faster)

Third gear (Honda Honda) hang on tight (go faster faster)

Faster it's alright

First gear (Honda Honda) it's alright (go faster faster)

Second gear (little Honda Honda) I lean right (go faster faster)

Third gear (Honda Honda) hang on tight (go faster faster)

Faster it's alright

I was thinking that it's time for me to interject some witty comment to defuse this potentially volitol situation. Unfortunately I'm only feeling about 1/2 witty right now so I think I'll keep my mouth shut.
