Piute (~4 mile round trip).......I was thinking some folks might want to check out the Lava Tubes on the way over Sat and check out the remains of Ft. Piute on the way back Sunday......optional tracks/waypoints will be included in GPS file..... Ride in small groups to make time/eat up miles...... Not swanky by any means but that's OK (with me) .......I'm just looking for a bed/shower.......I'll send out GPS Tracks beforehand.......feel free to stay elsewhere/leave at your leisure, but this will be ground zero on Sat morning...... "I'LL" BE RIDING AWAY FROM THE MOTEL 6 PARKING LOT AT 7AM ON SATURDAY THE 20th Confirmation code is 128241 when you call in with your VISA # - rate is $34.19 + tax per room.....please call in ASAP......I spoke with "Vern"......told him we'd have a minimum of 8 rooms.....I already booked a room......pair up or just book your own room (at ~$38/room in both Barstow and Laughlin you may want to just get your own room each night to ensure a good night's sleep ) Motel 6-Barstow 150 N Yucca Ave Barstow, CA 92311 760-256-1752 Directions 15 to E. Secured(?) parking for ~20 bikes provided close to bldg. Told them expected arrival time is 5-6pm Ask for booking against "SD Adventure Riders Group" ........ rate is $39/room + tax........includes breakfast buffet on Sunday (not sure what time that starts.....hopefully it's some 24hr Casino thing because you'll want to get an early start on Sunday too since you’ll have a long ride followed by a long drive back to SD.......unless you opt to stay at the Motel 6 in Barstow again......I'm sure they'll have rooms so you can delay that decision and see how you feel when you arrive in Barstow late Sunday afternoon ) Any fence walkers that join the party after 11/7 will likely need to pay the prevailing rate and may not get a trip through the breakfast buffet thrown in the deal..... So make a decision you slackers! Remember, “If you’re not in.....you’re OUT!” ......no whiners A few pics from when DigDug and I rode east to west on our way back from LA-B-V in 08: Doug out front on Mojave Road between Kelso and Kelbaker Obligatory stop at "The Mailbox" along Mojave Road: Too bad we didn't have any SDAR stickers with us..... christi20 0 Posted August 16, 2010 Also interested. Will put the tentative date on my calendar.
KTMrad 512 Posted August 16, 2010 Chris, that's the weekend before Thanksgiving, and before LA-B-V, some people may not be able to do it due to those dates. Also, I definitely can't make it that weekend.....as I'll probably be in New Orleans.
KTMrad 512 Posted August 16, 2010 My suggestion is December or January or March.
Crawdaddy 96 Posted August 16, 2010 My suggestion is December or January or March. I'll probably stick with November though I'm somewhat flexible on dates (the tentative dates work best for me)....I realize that weekend may knock out a few LA-B-V folks.....on the other hand, it would be a good opportunity to pre-run the likely opening stretch between Barstow and Baker...... Dec - tough to schedule anything beyond a day ride between Thanksgiving and Christmas......holiday parties/obligations....... Jan - Strega and I will likely be hosting a Ridgecrest ride in Jan Feb is Desert Dash...... March.....what?......I don't feel like waiting until March - HA! (might wind up hosting a "Return to Primm" ride in March......FYI - a portion of one of my Primm loops will include the section of Mojave Rd. that runs between Ivanpah Rd. and Kelbaker Rd.) RogerTOWM 0 Posted August 16, 2010 So we should take of the trials tire and put the knobbies back on for this one?
Jim 0 Posted August 17, 2010 (edited) Thanks for filling up another one of my weekends! If this goes down, I will spend every weekend in Nov riding. :-) ****EDIT**** If it wasn't already obvious, I'm out...... Edited October 17, 2010 by Jim
Crawdaddy 96 Posted August 17, 2010 So we should take of the trials tire and put the knobbies back on for this one? I guess it depends on what you're riding and your energy/hassle/interest level......I rode the WR through some pretty deep sand out by Bodie with "worn" trials tires front and rear and had no issues......turn the stabilizer clockwise and twist the throttle.......the trials tires can handle everything except deep mud pretty well...........and I'm lazy.......so, if I ride the WR it'll likely have trials tires on it (I'll probably be putting a new rear MT43 on it sometime in Sept......current tire has over 2K miles on it......may even put a new front on it as well.......we'll see)......if I ride the KTM it'll probably be knobbied since I *may* have it set up that way for the winter/desert season.......though it currently has a trials tire on the rear......did I mention I'm lazy? Erick 0 Posted August 24, 2010 I'm interested in this ride. Keeping an eye on it...
kellymac530 0 Posted August 24, 2010 i NEVER..PLAN to break a bike, or a bone... yeah i am up for a swap... my idea was you take my 530 for a weekish when you want to do that LA/B/V ride, on your own schedule, that way fuel is less of an issue with the super tanker.... i take your gsa for the same time to see if i like them before i buy one... no dirt on it per say...just ride street since it is NOT mine... just an idea for you
dsfox 0 Posted August 24, 2010 I drove support for 10 riders for what I think is this exact route a couple of years ago..met group for gas at Cima Road.....had a blast even doing that, stayed at Colorado Belle...we did a stretch of this ride on Day 2 Primm I think....I could be interested.....riding, or supporting..... Crawdaddy 96 Posted September 8, 2010 Any possibility of doing it during the week? I work weekends, and have thanksgiving week off school. I'll be sticking with the Sat/Sun plan to accomodate the majority and my own schedule.....like you, I'm planning on taking off all of Thanksgiving week........so I may or may not ride back on Sunday......I promised Kathy I'd be Bullhead City Wed night before Thanksgiving (we'll be having Thanksgiving at her sister's place in Bullhead).....so I might ride across to Laughlin on Sat with the crew then keep heading east towards Flagstaff(?), the Grand Canyon(?), (?) when everyone else hangs a U-Turn on Sunday......we'll see...... I also plan on riding from Bullhead City to Vegas on Saturday the 27th (via Sandy Valley/Red Rock Canyon) so I can join up with LA-B-V crowd) then I'll drop back down to Bullhead City on Sunday....... dsfox 0 Posted September 9, 2010 11/20 -11/21...is in there somewhere...weekend before thanksgiving.....I'm still interested....I wouldn't mind doing one way...(400 miles/2 days/ktm seat?.....don't know?).....if someone else wants to split the ride....and ride support the other direction?...... KTMrad 512 Posted September 9, 2010 Oh yeah, the dates in the title now. Well, as I posted earlier......already have plans for the end of November, so can't make that one.
Crawdaddy 96 Posted September 9, 2010 Ummmmm..........thread is confusing, doesn't appear to be a set date. tentative date has always been in title/first post ......I'm thinking the weekend before Thanksgiving (11/20-21) might be a good time to set up a Mojave Rd. ride and take advantage of the deal/rates Randy posted (drive out to Barstow Friday night the 19th, ride to Laughlin on Sat the 20th, ride back to Barstow on Sunday the 21st, drive home Sunday evening).... Date is unchanged and now FIRM - 11/20-21 I'd like to have a head count by mid October since we'll probably need to book rooms in Barstow/Laughlin a month in advance to assure availability......
