Tell Me It'll Be OK!

Recommended Posts

I'm on my way out of town now. First stop Salt Lake City. I'll get back to the fixin' next week.

I'm still working on getting parts ordered or checking prices. A lot of shops are closed on Mondays. I did find a replacement shock shaft on the Beta website (another story) for $65, finger's crossed that'll be less at a local shop.

as the guys at husky cafe said, these 610s are basically evolved for 10 years (really more my 86 510TX was very close with the single backbone frame as well) and we have never seen this before,,,the bolts may have been a little loose causing them to work into the mount brackets. I rode and raced a 98 TE610 that was a former Cagiva factory pro racers bike (ex trolli), trust me it was ridden very hard with no chassis issues. Other Husky guys have 08s and other late model 610s with mega baja miles on them with no issues,, this looks like an isolated issue. But like my crew says how many Huskys on the ride(1),,,,how many Huskys DNF(1),,,that is a 100% failure rate. I know a good metal guy will be able to weld that baby up,,and make her better than new. Rob

PS need any help PM, besy of luck

Anybody know of any shops that service Sachs shocks? I'll be trying to call the North American office in the morning to see what I can find.

I'm trying to get the shock shaft. I got quoted $220 from GPs Husq parts fiche. I'll be calling uptite, motosportz, racetech and pro-prept tomorrow morning to see if any of them can get something cheaper or are able to cross reference part numbers to find another part that'd work.

Robert,

I am baffled by this failure too. I can't figure it out, I'm just shaking my head trying to get the bike back together. I thought the frame was stout, but I gotta tell ya that mount looks really inadequate for the bike. I'm certain my 650L had more material down there than the 610. As far as the bolts being loose, it would make sense as just about every other bolt on the bike was or has been loose at some point. I've checked them all since I first got the bike in my garage but some of them are still working there way out. The linkage bolts are still holding on nice and tight to what remains of the linkage mounts.

Roger and I are hoping Metal Twister will be able to do the fab and welding but he's been really busy and may not be able to. If that's the case I'll send a PM your way for the number.

Jon

Hey John just saw the thread... Bring it by the shop when you get back in town. I can always make time for a SDAR member.

Chances are a silver bullet to the shock mount is all it will need. Give me a call or Pm. M.T.

Jon, did you call GP to see what they have to say about it ? And also about parts for the shock shaft ?

Talk to Isaac, or Paul the owner.

I called Sachs North American customer service and they were useless. They really only do auto parts there and coudn't give me any information on motorcycle parts or service centers. Lame.

Thanks for the link Robert, but I think I meant to put in there in terms of a shop I'm looking for would be a specialist Sachs service center. I'm trying to find shock parts or an expert on Sachs components. See more below....

I called GP Tuesday they were able to retrieve the Husqvarna part number and price of $220. Unfortunately they can't or wouldn't research the Sachs part number to see if a lower price was available from them or to cross reference if another model bike shock would work on the 610. Perhaps one that was produced in greater numbers. Unfortunattely I can't find any good info online. Sachs doesn't seem to have anything online for motorcycle products. All the Husq parts listings I've found show different part numbers for the 610 than all the other models. I think I may just have to bite the bullet and ask Isaac to order that shaft. He says they're in stock too. Hopefully it won't take Husky a month to get it out of the warehouse.

When I ordered new softer fork springs for my bike. they were in stock. When I tried to order a new softer rear spring (Later found that it takes the same spring size as my KX and KLX) there were none in the country and the dealer ended up ordering me a spring from Uptite. The shaft you need probably comes with everything on it and in it (like the mount and the dampener needle), doesn't it?

I just asked Isaac at GP for the price on the shaft. I assume it comes with whatever else was inside it. As far as the lower mounting clevis I don't know but after talking with the guys at uptite I'd prefer it does come with it all included. I've got a guy on the east coast ready to ship a shock from a TC450, but all the parts listings I can find on the two bikes are different, even though they appear identical.

It better come with all the parts in it. The needle clicker is in that clevis mount that broke off and so the needle would be broken and possibly the clicker gear in the mount. If it were just a little hardened shaft for that kind of money....well. that would be bad.

I ordered the parts from GP on Friday. They said the shaft is in stock so I hope to get them by the end of this week. Hopefully Twister can bandaid the linkage mount together and this bike can be ridable by next week.

X plane; tlking brings his immaculate Husky 610... the linkage mount was apparently the most interesting thing on the bike... we were all looking at it, and wondering how in could break, given how the forces are transferred...

jon- you can take my XR to pinnacles... it's on deathwings

It is a good looking bike, all the riders I was with that weekend were ex racers and every one of them remarked at how little material there was holding the linkage to the frame. Seems light to me too, but the frame is well tested and nobody's heard of anything like this before. I think Roger got a lucky one and I got to find it out for him. I really don't understand what happened that day. What I do know is two things broke, either one could've gone first and broke the other. I'm scratching my head.

I think I might have more confidence in Bob (Metal Twister) then that. I’ve seen the magic he is able to work. I would never call anything he does a “Bandage”. This Husky will be better then new when he gets through.

I will then continue with my secret plan to have Jon attempt to break any other weak spots he might find. By the time he is done, I will have the strongest most well tested bike in the county!
