Cmbthumper 08' KTM 950 SE

As my enjoyments grow for dirt and street riding i often change my mind, sell a bike and get another until i am satisfied. I don't get to ride much due some ongoing medical conditions but when i do, i want nothing but a Sh*t eatin grin on my face, even if it is only for a few hours.

I always wanted to try a "Big" KTM so i started my research and hunt about 6mo ago. A few popped up that i would have jumped on but i still had bike for sale. No sale No buy is how i keep my sanity. Then this monster of a bucket list bike showed up and i was right in the middle of a sale of my KTM 525. Figured it would be gone by the time things went through. Contacted the seller and communicated i was very interested but had to have some sales go through first and would totally understand if it sold by the time i called him back.

Well, my bike sold, i called the seller and i now own an AMAZING bike with INCREDIBLE history. Some of you will know this bike without question when i say who owned further into my short story. It will likely be unrecognizable now as the previous owner (Wont say his name without his permission) and SDAR member (Don't know his member name) i bought it from updated, upgraded, upgraded some more and poured a lot of long nights and put a ton of care into it before i came along. Check out the Upgrade list i compiled from the For Sale ad and 6" book of receipts and notes. I honestly have no idea the exact dates Crawdaddy purchased it and when he sold it to the Own i bought it from. I love bikes with history but was too excited to remember to ask.

Yeah tell me about it. I am certainly a lucky man. I have 10% of the skills needed for this bike but 1000% drive to tame this beast as best i can when i can. When i get scared i'll hop on my 07' KTM 450 EXC for a little back to reality.

Currently in Surgery for coolant leaks on the Samco hoses. Took me 45min to finger out how to remove the tank (Don't have a manual yet) but now it is an easy fix. Look forward to it cooling down a little to test ride it.

It’s too pretty to use it the way it should be used!  Nice machine, A always takes care of his bikes and you reaped the benefits of that.

Glad She went to a good home!  I need surgery to get rid of this gnarly bone spur in my heel and I may need one removed in my hip too so it’s road riding for me for awhile but I’ll be back 😉

Thanks to my new tool after two 4 bar heat cycles and a quick run around the block she is leak free.

Maiden Fail this morning!! At least i tried. I gear up like a Knight which takes darn near an hour.

Fired her up to go get some gas before hitting the trails. All was good until i left the gas station. Pulled the clutch in at a stop sign and flamed out. Restarted no problem but then the idle would not come down and stayed at im guessing 2-2500rpm. Adjusted the idle screw to bring the RPM down now that is was fully warmed up and it was either 2-2500rpm or on the verge of stalling. Going to go do some learning on these carbs and how a dual setup works and try again maybe next weekend.

3 bikes ago, and my first KTM was an 07 KTM 950 Supermoto. The LC8 Engine is really, really good. And I loved that 950 sm. Thing was just a pure carbureted beast especially opened up and changing the jetting a bit. I am sure the enduro version is equally awesome. My first 950 SM was a loaner (first image below) that I had for 6 months, and used at a bunch of track days before getting my own (second image below). I still miss that bike but my 690 does a pretty good job of keeping me grinning now :)

On my 950 when it started behaving like this it ended up being small hairline fractures in some of the rubber nipples I had capped things off with after doing the emissions deletes. I replaced the rubber caps, or perma-sealed the openings and all was good from then on - something to try anyway.

She will definitely be cared for on my watch. The last few years the summer heat has really effected me so look forward to it cooling down to ride it as much as i can.

Dude . . . . . that is a gorgeous specimen.  It reeks of testosterone and anger management issues.
