The DRZ is solid as a rock (and twice as heavy) any small bike rides going on? I can hardly wait for mild weather so I can hit the desert some...

Steve S. 0 Posted August 2, 2013 It is a KLR weekend... I'm taking mine out to start the COBDR on Sunday! First camping off the bike for a week trip for me. I have taken my KLR on one of the Escondido BMW outings... they didn't mind at all having other bikes along. It was interesting watching brand new big GS bikes with all the farkles being dropped by riders who had never been on a fire road before.

The KLR weights more than a KMT 990 and has a small bore hp like a 400, you're set up for both rides types. And it's SoCal, it's always desert season? I got Invited to do a road ride, but a Glamis loop is due too.

paulmbowers 236 Posted August 4, 2013 I rode. Fred, Thing, over Sunrise, made my dirt way to Banner, Julian for "BBQ" (it was ok- the ribs are better than their pulled pork), then Old Julian/Estates/Barona home. It was fun. I took no pictures. The End.
TrophyHunter 15 Posted August 5, 2013 I rode. 2 up Road King to Santa Ysabel. Strawberry Rhubarb pie, Julian, Cuyamaca, home. It was fun. I also took no pictures. The end.
Bagstr 288 Posted August 5, 2013 St. George - Las Vegas - La Mesa, Pavement 97F Three freeway stoppages, one roll-over, one accident, one fire. It was ugly at times. I can't convince the Dear One to stop driving that road on Sunday. Me, I'm trying to convince her to take the Kelbaker Rd. turn south at Baker.
dirt dame 561 Posted August 5, 2013 Rolled the TE out of the garage after wasting the morning on endless little projects around the house. Pulled in the clutch, hit the starter button and....nuthin'. Tried to charge up the battery. Didn't work. Bought a new battery, started the bike, looked at the time, and went inside for an early supper. The end. bikeslut 1 Posted August 5, 2013 I rode lark- did the overlook at the hill climb, then met Axel at the dirt road- Rode into main area and did some trails trying to build his confidence Then practiced getting his front tire in the air...over and over and over and over He started getting the hang of it, then we did some more trails Came to the oak tree and saw SDAR member Phil- did some stuff with him, and he charged up the slab, with the front tire in the air a couple of times- with his level of experience, that slab is intimidating but the feeling when you get to the top...he let out a whoop! THAT right there was worth the drive for me Picture and ride report soon
