Bagstr 288 Posted May 4, 2013 Thanks Hoss314 No plans for the Dakar so the Scorpion will do for my 'Late to the party". Nights. Cool how you can use the std high/low with CH with the dimmer. It would be nice to hide a Montana behind a big faring, but I don't want to hit it on the way over the bars.
Strega 0 Posted May 4, 2013 Any device you put up there for off-road riding is subject to a beating. I wouldn't run an iPad, iPad Mini, Galaxy Note, or anything like that up there. I've seen people mount thier phone up there, but what happens when you wreck and break your phone? The Panasonic B1 is the only thing I've seen that would work up there behind the fairing. I've spent an insane amount of time researching a tough tablet type of gadget to mount behind the fairing on my Adv bike and nothing other than the Garmin Montana is cost effective with decent screen real estate. This with the Dual Sport Maps App would be killer. Panasonic B1: $1279.00 http://www.mruggedmobile.com/panasonic-toughpad-jt-b1-price-1-1.aspx Maybe some day... bikeslut 1 Posted May 4, 2013 Panasonic B1: $1279.00 awesome... I'm getting one of those and mount it behind the rally fairing to put on my blue TW200... THAT will be a very nice adventure bike I just rode the TW up to the snow last winter and it worked great, and the fairing blocked the cold wind... hard to read the GPS though, so this looks like a great solution
bikeslut 1 Posted May 4, 2013 the Mighty T-DUB Why on earth would you spend so much time or money on that? Here's an idea, lets turn my girlfriends p150 into a rally bike! Yeah, that'll be money well spent. Ps: looking at the snow I can only hope this belongs to no one local.
Goofy Footer 539 Posted May 4, 2013 Here's an idea, lets turn my girlfriends p150 into a rally bike! Yeah, that'll be money well spent. The Genuine Stella 150 is modeled after an older Vespa right? It's vintage looks probably are a large selling point for the model. Wait, do you mean THIS older Vespa? Like the 4 that competed in the 1980 Dakar Rally? Yup, and two of four Vespas finished the race that year. That's a better finish rate than the rest of the field where only 37% of participants completed the course that year. Ps: looking at the snow I can only hope this belongs to no one local. Actually the TW200 was the first bike to ever reach the North Pole in the 80s . Real men don't joke about such things... . This concludes a Goofy history lesson, class dismissed!
TrophyHunter 15 Posted May 4, 2013 Still one of my Favorite Ride Reports Whatever makes one smile IMO. I looked at and drooled over the BC fairing, I couldn't get past the cost. Nice setup, though.

CalNub 0 Posted May 4, 2013 Alright, I apologize for my snarky, out-of-line comment. This whole moving thing is getting the better of me. Bob: That TW is pretty sick, I'm just a little jealous because my 400 has a bad stator and I'm not excited to see my shop bill. Tim: Your life lessons are always welcome. Strega: That Panasonic tablet is freakin awesome. That is all.
Goofy Footer 539 Posted May 6, 2013 @CalNub - Ha no probs! I catch myself spending way too much time on potential tech mods (even for the TW...). Heck, I'd consider slapping an LED or HID onto the TW for more light output. As long as you're not being the d!ck on the road throwing light into all the oncoming traffic, I say run em bright! Off road, heck yes Mas Light = Mas Safe! The 2012 Neduro (Ned Suisse from ADVrider) Dakar Racebike

Goofy Footer 539 Posted May 6, 2013 Absolutely not needed....unless you are riding the Dakar Rally at night, or in need of a tax write off. Just one of those lights are much brighter than the BD Diablo light that I had on the previous bike. Hoss, do you run a dimmer on your squadron and if so, what % output do you run on the "low" setting for street use?
Goofy Footer 539 Posted May 6, 2013 Just think what could be achieved with a professional photographer rider !? Really though, I'd like to get a good photog to snap a few SoCal riding pics of you before you head back to CO.
hoss314 0 Posted May 6, 2013 Yes I do use the dimmer...it comes with a remote to dim the light. Looks like a car alarm remote. No idea on a percentage... Just bright enough to not blind on coming traffic. Using maybe 30% of its ability????
Goofy Footer 539 Posted September 16, 2013 More LED headlight options. I believe these were created with a 3D printer. Rally Moto Kit and Rigid Industries led lights. Allegedly they came out in March with other models/makes to follow but RallyMoto's website seems to be down?

Goofy Footer 539 Posted July 18, 2014 Vacman - Chris Vestal & MotoMinded have some cool products. One thing that they are doing is using two different LED lights for varying patterns and use. For instance they will use a BD SII Wide Cornering angled down (for decent cut-off) for street use and a BD Squadron Spot for high beam. This IMHO is more effective than merely dimming an insanely bright LED - it allows for different beam patterns. They also have a helmet light bracket "coming soon" http://www.motominded.com/collections/helmet-lights/products/helmet-bracket-under-development
Goofy Footer 539 Posted July 18, 2014 I've been meaning to update this thread with some pictures of lights in action. My pics are not PMB-esque but really, what is... Night shot - no light. Enough ambient light to vaguely walk around and enough to see the outline of trees but it was hard to see. BD SII Combo - while it doesn't show in the pic, I was able to illuminate the large trees in the distance. I was pleasantly surprised by the distance when aimed correctly. BD Squadron Wide Cornering - poor pic but it does provide much more fill than the Spot/Driving. I was somewhat dissapointed by the limited distance, I was hoping that it would still throw slightly farther. It is indeed wide but I think you'd need some type of spot or helmet light in conjunction with this pattern. I'll test it some more in the future before I make final judgement. BD Squadron Spot - the light is pointed down as to not blind traffic at night. I pushed the bike onto the curb for extra height but it's still low and doesn't show proper distance. Those park benches are pretty far away from the bike. Next time I'll bring some cones or something to mark off distances. BD Squadron Spot + BD Squadron Wide Cornering - poor pic but ooooh. This is what you could run with a HDB Rally Fairing. Wide Cornering in the top position and Spot on the bottom. *I share these reviews and pics in hopes that somebody finds them useful. Marketing and corporate sales teams aside, lights are fun and night rides are awesome. Let's ride!
