2012 Agua Caliente Poker Run

Recommended Posts

I had a great time, thanks to everyone for the riding and hospitality! Three days of riding has left a mile-wide smile on my face and me seriously evaluating upgrading the seat on my DRZ. I couldn't spend much time snapping photos but here are the few I did take.

A major benefit with SDAR is that we keep meeting new folks with smiles on their face.

Wintyfresh, you did a terrific job with the DRZ on some vary challenging sand washes. See you at the next Trailhead

May I suggest our friends at Seat Concepts for the backside fatigue? They have a low, standard and tall for the DRZ. I have their seats on my DR650 and V-Strom. Plenty of others here have experience with them. Hard to beat the cost of the seat kit - install yourself or run to a shop for $20.

Ditto on what Dave said.....good to see more folks just having a good time.

I only rode on Saturday but it was a great weekend! Got to spend some time with my girlfriend, which was great. We went hiking on Sunday.

Diablo dropoff... that was interesting. Only one of us made it up the whole way without getting stuck, I won't mention who but his name has 3 letters. :)

Sounds like it was well organized and a great time...Wish I had time to be there with you guys.

Great job on organizing and putting the ride on. Would like to see this as a annual thing also.

Good photos, looks like a good time. Wish I could've made it out....but kinda glad I didn't, otherwise I would not have known about the site virus issue and wouldn't have been able to deal with it until Monday.

Choose your line carefully on Fairchild. It makes all the difference.

Personally, I like the big Hole and vertical wall on the right of this picture. dirol.gif

On the big bikes, you take the left line down, thru the rutt....and you turn the motor off, use the brakes and clutch, dragging the rear wheel as a boat anchor.......not a problem !

Anyone using my June Wash Poker Run Track knows it was not accurate. It followed the Mapsource Topo map.

Sunday, we rode the route and I now have a ridden track to email interested parties.

PM with your email and I will pass it on.

Kathy and I arrived around 2:30pm on Friday.....I'd never stayed there before......nice campground

Ron (Slowdown) and I partnered up for the main Poker Ride on Sat. I think there were 10 waypoints to set for cards and a few wildcard waypoints. I snagged 9 of the 10 available. (Didn't bother riding up to the Bottom of Heart Attack Hill after dropping down Diablo........just rode out to Fish Creek, marked Poker Hand #9 waypoint, and then rode back up Diablo)

Snapped a pic of Ron up on top of Diablo before I headed down:

IMAG1382.jpg

Some deep sand heading back up Diablo......

We cruised through Sin Nombre and over into the Volcanic Hills.......I'd only ridden that in the opposite direction and forgot about the short climb/step up as you leave the wash.......I decided I'd bound up the right side rather than use the "cheat" rocks on the left........not a great decision........looped it........the bike landed on the step above the rocks........

IMAG1383.jpg

Ron looked up and had no interest so we turned around and went back out to S2 and took the easier route down to the tracks, etc.....

All the windmills going up sure are fugly.....trails disappearing....

IMAG1384.jpg

On Sunday we took the New Meat (Wintyfresh) through a silt bed over by Sin Nombre among other things.....raised the bar on him a bit.......good times......
