Norwegian staying in SD/Carmel Valley until late June

Recommended Posts

Hi

I got the great opportunity to stay in Southern California for one year, with my familiy, and took it.

Really great to be here!

The longing for a motorcycle made me buy a 1984 Honda XL250R last week.

I hope to be able to make some nice trips around SD until I have to go home in late June this year.

Normally I make my daily rides around Trondheim, Norway.

Hope to meet some among you along the road..

Have a great day,

Sn0rr£

Welcome to the chaos that is the USA.

How should an English speaker pronounce your name?

Dave

Hi Dave

I have heard a range of attempts by now, some really clever ones, and some that may not be said to be so..

Anyway, I have my norwegian accent and limitations, so I fully understand that some sounds in our language might be difficult to pronounce for people from other countries.

The first two letters are usually fine. The "o" is also, some times, but maybe mor often it sound like an "u", or how you would probably pronounce the "oo" sound in for example "Snoop Dog".

The last letter, the "e" is often sounding how we would say "i", and you would say "ee"..

I have also heard "snore", who is the word for how I may sound in my sleep. ;-)

I think most attempts seem honest and good, and appreciate the efforts, so no one should be afraid of not getting it right..

The name may refer to either of the following, according toi wikipedia; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snorre .

Have a nice evening!

Thanks. Was not aware of any such website ( http://forvo.com/ ). I will probably use it to learn pronounciations in your language.

From some other introduction of a new member, I saw that somebody mentioned that a picture of the bike was mandatory. It looks more or less (probably less ;-) ) like this one:

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/Honda/honda_xl250r%2082.htm

I have some problems kickstarting it, especially when the engine is not cold. I then have to jumpstart it.

I might get back to this problem in a different thread.

I got a message from Wierdrider a couple of days ago, and just logged in to this account, for the first time in many months.

I have very good memories from SDAR meetings, as well as trips together with danrider, Wierdrider and Randy. Hope you are all doing fine.

Would be great to see any of you in Norway, or other places in Europe. Best wishes from norwegian2015_2016, Stjørdal, Norway.

Robert - Thanks for the video! Haven't seen it until now..  Should you happen to be close to the Trondheim area, you are welcome to visit. I live 5-10 minutes from the airport.

We have several hundreds among your fellow countrymen staying in our local community of about 23 000 people, in Stjørdal. They contribute both at different local arrangements like the world rallycross championship ( https://hellrx.com/program/ ), and to the local economy, besides having their military training.

Jim Thanks for the nice photo from a great day in SD!  I sent you an email with some pictures. If you haven't seen it (?) , check your spamfolder. Maybe it got trapped there..
