Ride to Work Day - Vegas Style

Recommended Posts

Well, today was “Bike to Work” day so I went for a ride before working remotely in Lost Wages…..I start all my Vegas rides here…….seems like the most appropriate place to take that first pic……this one was shot around 6:30am so not much activity on The Strip:

Then I cut over to Blue Diamond and rode around to the backside of Cottonwood Pass (this in the inverse of the track on my Primm loop that runs over to gas in Blue Diamond)

You see the casinos from this spot but the picture is all washed out…

Came across some wild horses

Looking back on my way over to Cottonwood Summit Trail:

Once I reached the main Cottonwood Trail I hung a right and went up and over the summit

Picture009.jpg

Nice view as you descend down towards Hwy 160 with Red Rock Canyon in the distance.

Quick left on Hwy 160 and up to Mountain Springs……the trails that run up behind Mtn Springs and eventually tie into Lovell Canyon are a blast…..

The Spring is still flowing

Picture014.jpg

This pole line road doesn’t look like anything special in this photo but let me assure you it’s a blast with some ups/downs and minimal whoops

Picture015.jpg

After I cruised up Lovell Canyon a ways I made the right turn to cut across to Red Rock Canyon……I’ve ridden this stretch of trail MANY times but it never gets old…….temps were quite comfortable since it was still only mid morning….

Picture016.jpg

Once I reached the washout I came across two fully loaded/NV. plated bikes (a BMW450X and a lowered KTM 250 XCW – wish we could plate those in CA…..VERY light)…….I stopped and yelled out/looked around but found no one…….then as I proceeded up the trail another ~100 yards or so I found the riders…….nice young couple (Kevin and Alexa)….they were on their way to Vegas from Reno and had already been out riding for several days……they were well equipped with Rotopax gas cans to cover some seriously remote areas…….we B.S.’d for a while and a light switch went off in my head, “hey Kevin, are you on your way around the Grand Canyon? Didn’t you PM me for tracks/advice through ADVRider? B) ......Alexa says, “Are you Crawdaddy? :) .......we all cracked up :) ……..what a SMALL world……they’re dropping their bikes in Vegas for a week, flying to Canada, then returning to finish off the loop.....they’re considering riding counter clockwise and heading up into Utah once they reach Fredonia/Kanab – great idea……I wanna go!..........anyway, they were scouting the washout on foot to see if it was rideable……I showed them the line on my bike then walked back down and rode Alexa’s bike up the washout for her……snapped a pic of them once we reached the summit……

A couple more summit photos:

The views of Red Rock Canyon are stunning as you head down from the summit:

Once we reached the end of the scenic loop we went our separate ways……Kevin and Alexa headed for town……I headed for breakfast at Bonnie Springs

The pass looks a lot different not covered in snow and ice. I am assuming much easier to get up. Thanks for the pics.

You know Chris your really starting to piss me off! I'm retired and you still manage to ride about twice as much as me, and usually in cooler places. Can I get a job where you work?

I need to travel where I can ride. With that, I am going to Malawi in late September to try an teach a group of locals how to ride. It should be interesting.
