Report from my non-race day

Recommended Posts

Never made it to the D-38 race today, truck broke down just past Golden Acorn Casino. My friend's wife came and got my trailer and we went to Plaster city for a little while. No pics, but it turned out to not be a terrible day. I heard it was a pretty tough course, maybe not good for a first timer, so maybe it was good luck my truck is a $35k piece of junk.

Was it the Diesel or the transmission? I think you have either the 6.0 or 6.4, both have bad reputations.

Well, sorry about the truck....break downs are always a drag...but at least you got to ride a bit, and you aren't reporting back on any injuries, so a good day ! you can practice up for next year, and we can get a cheering squad for you too.

It is the 6.4, and it was the engine. My buddy is a Ford mechanic, and he was in the back seat when it died. The message on the display told me to "stop safely now" and I lost all throttle. Once I stopped the engine shut down and wouldn't restart. I guess there are some temperature and backpressure sensors that can make it do that, but I won't know until tomorrow sometime.

I saw you guys as I went by in my 12 year old Dodge Ram heading out this morning.

My first thoughts:

Man thats a NICE truck!, why are they broken down?

That just SUCKS!

Should of went Cummings...

bummer about the truck. Maybe the big man up stairs was giving you a sign, cause the race was pretty hardcore. The new I8 desert racers club did a great job hosting their first race. Lots of dunes, rocks, whoops, g-outs, pinned sections, that course had it all. My race was awesome, got a good start, pushed it hard in the rocks and almost lost it about 20 times but never went down. Passed a bunch of people in the technical stuff and did my best to hold them off in the WFO sections following. Briana had clutch issues and ended her race short mid lap 2. :) Couple people got injured and one guy ate it hard off the start they said he had it pinned in when he went over the bars then was airlifted out. Another guy had a heart attack and got lifted to ucsd. I saw another kid on a 125 laid out several yards from his bike on one of the pinned sections leaving the pits, it didn't look pretty. ouch!

Update: Truck is running again, one of the 3 temp sensors in exhaust was bad, replaced under warranty. $300 towing bill submitted for reimbursement. I'm thinking my time sitting on the freeway and missing the race should be worth somewhere around the $250,000,000.00 range. :)

We saw you on the side of the road with the flat bed tow tilted and ready to pick up the truck. Glad all is ok! We were sorry for you, but again glad all is OK. RN
