Joliet 0 Posted January 15, 2009 I think I am the only one on our group to actually do anything but just tip over while stopped. It was a low speed washout on one of the rocky sections Add my name to the list... got led a bad wash bye the gps guys , got turned around and hit a rock and plopped over trapping my foot... who was that masked man who helped me? thanks , now I get to buy aftermarket radiator guards ..FINALLY..To all the BTW group I had a great time. and if I cut anyone off ...me bad Tom, I was guilty of leading you down the wash, and our faithful sweeper XXXNSD was the one that helped you up. I am twisted enough that I was really enjoying that wash and was hoping it was going to go on for a while, I was bummed when it dead ended. If you noticed where I walked up the side of the wash, that is where the actual trail went, but it looked like most of you were low on fuel and not up for exploring. Did you hit a radiator? I didn't see any leaks. Ken
N2TM 0 Posted January 15, 2009 XPLANE Ride Day 2: I rode with Chris, Tracy, Roger and we did the Calico 50 mile loop and we were back at the hotel by noon. I loaded up my gear and was just about to turn onto I-15 south when I realized that I still had a half a day left to go riding some more. So there I was on I-15 north exiting at the Calico Ghost town road, near a dry wash, unloading, suiting up and riding again....always a good way to get therapy!!!! Chris had shown us Mule Canyon Rd. earlier in the day and we commented that it would be a good place to return to. I rode another 45 miles exploring, washes, hillclimbs and caves. This mountanous area has the rich history of the Calico Man discovery, silver and borax mines and caves. After my therapy, I loaded everything back up after sunset and had an easy, cool night drive to S. Diego. Don't forget to click the pictures to enlarge them. Todd, Roger, Chris, Tracy in front of the famous bottle house. After hiking up this unfriendly terain, the cool air inside the cave and view was great. Whole new respect for Burro Schmidt at his 2,087 ft deep cave. I found these arches quite by accident. This arch is at the top of a rock hillclimb, all large enough to ride through. I especially enjoyed riding with all of you on Sat. and look forward to doing it again!!!! You are awesome. Todd
bikeslut 1 Posted January 15, 2009 Todd; that arch photo kicks ass... Hey TNT! Why didn't you go there on Friday instead of that rocky climb?!

Ken Hey Ken, no radiator problems just the plastic stock guard was busted in half, been wanting to pick up some aftermarket ones for awhile anyways , as far as the wife knows it would cost about the same. Your right about the fuel, should have got some from Chris at the Husky stop then I wouldn't have been so abject to hitting the wash. tom

grantzilla 0 Posted January 16, 2009 I fell over sideways taking Blind with me. shhhhhh, no picture means it didn't happen!!! Blind Unfortunately we had a witness Blind, Roger saw the whole thing and it was obviously my klutzy fault. Don, that hill was a tricky spot to stop. Pretty sure the whole group got to see me dump it at Husky. Slight slope to the right and tired from that gnarly wash = tip over of 400+ machine. At least I got that first scratch on the fairing out of the way, good stuff.

Zenosan 2 Posted January 22, 2009 Just thought some of my group would remember Chris frantically pointing out to the rest of us that we had been riding over three hours and we had only gone 31 miles! Don

Strega 0 Posted January 22, 2009 Had 1 guy with a broken clutch, all 3 groups were together up to the Husky Monument. After Husky, the pace picked up considerably, hehe.

Was that due to terrain, or due to the large group ? We lost some time waiting for Roger to get back from escorting Kris back to Barstow when his clutch crapped out......no biggie......sh!t happens.......that's why it's always best to LEAVE EARLY......we also took our time, rode at a comfortable speed, and stopped at all significant sites along the way.......after all, we were the "Civilized Trail Riders" group not the the Balls to the Wall crowd

paulmbowers 236 Posted January 22, 2009 "Civilized Trail Riders" group not the the Balls to the Wall crowd Ya know, even the BTTW group was quite civilized. One would think "keep up or die" but it was not the case at all. BTW- I think I figured out why my GPS was so wacked. As I figured- it was the loose nut behind the buttons. It's primarily a street machine, and I failed to take it off "auto recalculate", a command buried deep in the menus. So if I went off track even a little, it recalculated it's own course. Problem? I figured it out in the last 3 miles, on the street. Dough! p
Kris 0 Posted March 14, 2009 Hello everyone Clutch update. After I got back home on the day of the X-Plane ride, I cleaned, filled and bled the clutch hydraulics. I have not had to add any fluid or had any problem with it since that day. It has magically healed itself! Kris
