Noobs! Overnight Dual Sport Camping Trip Number Three: Nov 16-17

Recommended Posts

Back again, year three.  Third annual?  Whatever!

Discussed this a bit with people who attended the get together at Dave’s place a while ago and I can work it in on Nov 16-17.  This was a pretty popular event, and I don't really want to change much if anything about it.  Nice simple route.  Campsite was good.  Food was available if we wanted to take advantage of it (sausages were popular!)

People who have never camped off their bikes are welcome.  People who have camped around the world are welcome.  Spouses and friends are welcome.  Let's just all get together, hang out and have a good time together.

It consists of a short ride, 40-50 miles if I recall, some of it gravel road. A chance to load up your bike and see how it handles with the gear on it both on road and off road.  The ride ends at the campground by Warner Springs so you have an opportunity to set up your gear and put it to the test for a night.

Post up some replies on here and let me know.  I'm pretty tied into the date due to so much going on, I never knew being retired was so much work.

So glad you picked this weekend as I think I’m free.
This has always been truly fun.
what’s better than a group ride? One that ends at a campfire when you can all talk gear, and stories, and Moto stuff. I think campfire talk after a ride is where the best of the best Moto friendships happen.
Im in!

I think I may make this one. Any details on the camping situ in Warner springs? My wife is also toying with the idea of meeting us at the destination with the small camper.

The campground is a few miles of twisty narrow paved road off the highway.  No water, no power, vault toilets.  If you have a small camper you should be fine.  My wife might bring my van out.  Always good to have support vehicles, they can bring firewood.
I will put together an event thing on the calendar with all the details soon, but here’s the link to the campground.

The road is a narrow single lane (broken pavement) thing with a few blind hairpin turns.  Hopefully your wife is brave, skilled, and your vehicles are small.

I have a 20 foot trailer and I wouldn’t really want to bring it there.

Just out my curiosity, would it be possible to go Nate Harrison Grade ==> Palomar Divide Truck Trail ==> Half Way Rd ==> Puerta La Cruz Rd?

I don't know if all of mentioned roads are open and accessible. So far I only did the Nate Harrison Grade.

Last time and everytime is was up on Palomar, there is a closed gate that does not allow you to get to Palomar Divide from the observatory. I’ve never seen it open.

If you want to do any other route feel free.  The group will be at the campground around 4:00 probably..anyone can join in.

This is just a very simple street/gravel route with your bikes loaded up….a chance to ride with all of your camping gear and then to set it up and use it in a very user friendly environment.  If you’re looking for a long or challenging ride this isn’t it!

I looked at the link Tom sent. I know that road. My wife could probably do it, but not solo.

We have a 6x12 home brew camper built for going off grid that we pull behind the Jeep. I can have her just meet us there without it in tow.

You can do some other routes that add more mileage but give you more dirt also, but Tom is hosting the easy ride out as he mentioned.

There are hundreds of routes that could be done, this is designed to be a very simple ride with camping gear on street and dirt followed with employing the gear.

If anyone wants to do a different route and meet at the campground, that’s fine.  But this is the event I am hosting.

I’m in, and I’m bringing my buddy Jorge on his Super T. My TDUB is all ready but I’m going to try to bring the DR. We will see what happens.

Man this event is always so fun. So excited.

Sounds good! I can put Dave's work to test (rear & top rack).

Remember the warranty.
It extended to the end of the pavement....in the workshop
