Riggerdan 147 Posted March 1, 2012 Another beautiful day in Jamul Not realizing my tank was close to empty, made a quick and chilly ride to the gas station to top off - sure was not dressed properly for the 16 mile early morning road ride Met up with Beezzz & CVRick in Jamul at 0900 Warmed up with a little single track and dirt roads to access the back of Lawson Valley, thousands of acres of green grassy fields and random tracks to play on Soon to be summited Sycuan Mountain top left Headed back out through local single track and accessed the trail to Sycuan Peak one of the more difficult routes in the neighborhood I did not do such a great job leading up that, actually it was slightly embarrassing missing a key turn around some massive erosion, we will go to the "video tape" for that.... Rick on-sited it with no problem and then Beezzz and I got past the crux and stopped for a few photos looking WSW through Lawson Valley with San Miguel to the right with Otay range to the left a mile or 2 more and we summited the peak and took a well needed break - great view even with the haze looking north, great shot of Cuyamaca in the background, with a little bit of snow still up there Rick trying to blend in with local foliage looking east in to the back of Lawson Valley and beyond Los Pinos in the back center, Corte Madera to the left - Gaskill peak center right, right of that is Lawson peak and Mother Grundy looking NNE with Viejas mountain in front of Cuyamaca with Loveland reservoir in the foreground soaking in a beautiful day From there we headed back down to the single track for a few more laps and put Rick in a good spot to bail showing the guys a hill I have yet to climb..... that has been on my radar for a while, we made it to the top and went down it Then Beezzz eyed it up, and with no hesitation showed me how to climb it..... I figured another day - but it was very tempting, as the conditions were about as good as it could possibly get Rick and I both had that look in our eye like "we have to go to work tomorrow" Rick peeled off, and headed home... Beezzz and I headed out for more local exploration maybe another 20 miles or so, with not that many pictures...but a great place to stop for a snack and a rest in the sun as we heading home we were "forced" to ride the well groomed and tacky single track again we got to the pavement..... he made the left, I made the right - it was great day still had minimal dirt to cover before I got home, the light was good wanted to catch a few shots of a rock in the backyard This shot was for Bagstr...that was about as muddy as I could get my bike, as It drains very well in the DG - there were a few slippery spots on the ST here and there, with minimal puddles.... Thanks again for coming out, and look forward to the next time......

Riggerdan 147 Posted March 4, 2012 Nice rightup guys, Great bike porn! Is that a secret single track or care on sharing ? not to familiar with Jamul area. The neighborhood trail system is quite small actually, but when pieced together you can put some mileage on the "secret single track" is a combination of trails that is accessible via "secret double track" that can only be found when riding on "secret fire roads"................... it has taken a few years to piece it together - with out ending up in someones back yard...(thats the real secret) I feel fortunate to get my fix locally and enjoy showing people around, the obvious concern is TO MUCH traffic and compromising the local access / permission though done correctly and with a some neighborly etiquate there are good times to be had that Jamul ride was 80 miles and there was another 20 or 30 at least that was left unridden

Socal_350exc 0 Posted March 5, 2012 Not sure where this area is - but looks awesome. We just rode McCain Valley today - it had been a while since I had gone out there - couldn't believe all the construction for the power lines - that was kind of a bummer... they really destroy allot of land and trails to build those towers.
