A training place for free practice near SD?

I like to do my drills from time to time (like U-turns, 8-shapes etc.) on a parking lot.

Yet I'd also like to do an off-pavement training routine (elephant turns, slalom, balance, etc.)

Does anybody know a free dirt place (e.g. a dirt parking lot or similar) close to SD or Poway?

Obviously I don't want to anger anyone by riding somewhere if it it's not allowed.

The Orosco Ridge trailhead has a dirt lot, plus another somewhat flat area at the top of the climb. Nothing to write home about, but a decent enough place to practice or test & tune and it's even OHV legal.

Look at black mountain road/trail (maybe too far north for you) many options for training and just riding etc in that area.
Just follow this road it turns into dirt with side options for riding.

Google the duck farm for directions.

Are you referring to Orosco Truck Trail which branches off to the left about a mile to the north on the Pamo Rd? That's on my list to explore.

That is a good place to ride and practice. Also Santa Ysabel Truck trail in the same area.

Dumb question, are Truck Trails strictly trucks only? Or, can one ride dirt bikes on them?

I believe Orocsco Truck trail is also for dirt bikes.  Make sure you have a spark arrestor.  Black Mountain/ Black Canyon is for plated vehicles.  I have seen plenty of dirt bikes up there though

I’ve never seen or heard of a truck trail that was closed to bikes only.

Some are open for green sticker, most are street legal only.
