Friday street ride: S1 & S2 loop: Join me?

Recommended Posts

Due to some scheduled surgery later this month, my riding is over for at least 3 months, likely 6.

I don't have much more time to ride so I'm doing all I can now, commuting to work occasionally and doing all of my errands on my bikes.

I've taken this Friday off work to enjoy a day of leisurely riding. Am thinking about doing the big S-1/S-2 loop out of La Mesa.  That would be the I-8 east to the Sunrise Highway (S-1), the 78 through Julian to the S-2 then a nice ride through the HOT desert to the I-8 where it's a slab ride back westbound.

There will be time to stop for chow somewhere along the way.

Let me know if you're interested in riding along or want to add another destination to the route.

Will be on my KTM 990 or my big fat Triumph...but not my wife's Honda Trail 90.

Hey Dan. If you are doing all slab I'm in. What time you want to start? I can meet you at Lake Jennings off ramp off I8.

Wanna do ALL back roads instead of slabbing 8?  At least on the way out.....

Option to break off 8 on the way back and do the full length of 94.

I'll break out the Road Kouch.

That actually sounds better--back roads, old 8/94 back vs the I-8.

Any time is fine, I have the entire day off. Meeting at Lake Jennings exit is good. What time is good with you?

Let's meet at the Lake Jennings gas station/Jack in the Box @ 0730 on Friday.

Then it's I-8 east to Sunrise Highway, the 78 to the S-2, the desert route to the I-8 west to the Old Highway 80 back to town.

We can figure out any food/fuel stops as we go.  I'm in no rush.

I'll be back in town for the first time in a month. Sounds like a good ride to remember how to ride again. Hopefully my big bike doesn't give me any trouble after sitting for so long. See you fellers tomorrow morning

Ok that's too Wierd even for me.

My ST has 'oh ----' handles on the back and a back rest so my passengers don't fall off.

...but maybe we could go camping together sometime on our dirtbikes.

:)

Here's the tentative route for those interested:

Lake Jennings/I-8 east to Sunrise Hwy (S-1)

S-1 to the 79

Engineers Road to the 78

Winola road to the 78/Banner Grade

78 to the S-2

S-2 through the Anza-Borrego desert to the I-8 west

Exit on Old Hwy 80 past the Desert Tower

Hwy 80 west (through Jacumba & Boulevard (good BBQ there) to the 94 cut-off

Hwy 94 through Campo to Casa de Oro and the 125/new Hwy 94

Not much more than 200 miles.

Thats all I have. Ideas?

Oh, boy. I think you'll really like it. Engineers Road is a real "get to know your bike" route.
