Rode Wildcat Canyon home with TrophyHunter and parted at the 8 continued east, topped off in Pine Valley took Bear Valley to Buckman Springs up to 4 corners Los Pinos then back home through Campo 94 heres a few pictures along the way Thanks again it was great to meet new riders and see familiar faces
Afry 1 Posted August 27, 2012 What...no mention of the broken wrist (no crash), flat tire, hole in the bottom of the motor and a couple of bike meets dirt events? In spite of all that it was a great day on Lusardi tt, Black mtn and Santa Ysabel tt. Met some new guys (to me) and had a local adventure ending with Crawdaddy to the truck rescue for a fellow Ramonian.
TrophyHunter 15 Posted August 27, 2012 Exactly. I was thinking a good title would've been "Broken wrist, broken bikes, broken dreams" The dreams part is a little much but it flowed better. I woke up this morning and decided I needed to get out on a ride. Quick prep and off to Ramona. I kept hearing rattling enroute so I chased it down with Afry when I got to Packards. Loose header bolts. Guess that anti-seize really works! The back side of some of the water bars were washed out and if ya didn't jump 'em, you took a pretty good hit. The KLR rider (sorry - didn't get a name) took the biggest and when we got to a gate, he was pretty sure of a broken wrist. Doctor Dan taped him up and he rode out. Riggerdan enjoying the views. Thanks for sweeping. The bash plate mounting point on this DR hit so hard on a rock that it pushed the screw into the bottom of the case. I'll be adjusting mine as I (and Afry) have the same guard. I did a nice front tire washout and took some dirt samples home with me. I had just mounted up the Wolfman side racks and they protected the bike well. Lost the coloring on the bottom of one as it dragged thru the rocks and my elbow & knee pads earned their keep. Thx to C-Daddy for the lead, Riggerdan for the sweep and all for a great ride overall. dsfox 0 Posted August 27, 2012 sorry to hear about the injury, but it did look like a beautiful day out there otherwise...... (On the water bars? Can you actually JUMP a KLR? ) I HAVE seen them do some pretty amazing things!!!!
Crawdaddy 96 Posted August 27, 2012 Fun ride while it lasted.... Note to self: install front rim lock......ripped the stem right off the front tube Craig made it home safely to Vista (wrist) Evan and I got his bike unloaded without incident....and with a few beers
Yenool 0 Posted August 27, 2012 Well I'm glad you got your beers in the end Craw since that expected mid ride Hideout stop got nixed. Great meeting all of you and it was a blast of a ride. We did seem snake bitten right from the start. Hopefully all bodies, bikes, and egos are healed sooner rather than later.
JOnesbilt 0 Posted August 28, 2012 Jasus is that what my ass looks like lol. I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Crawdaddy and the rest of the group who helped me get my stricken bike back to the trail head. Postmortem revealed a neat hole partially punched through the case. The punched aluminum kind of hinged and didnt escape into the bowels of the machine so I cleaned her up with a dremel tool and brake cleaner and patched it with some chemical metal and two layers of 2 part epoxy. Im, pretty confident it'll hold and has passed initial trails in the back yard. The bash plate is a ticking time bomb if you guys have the same on your DR's, I am in the process of fabbing up a safer design with stainless steel mounts coming off the footpeg mounting points. KLR650 Craig (broken wrist) made it home safely and drove his wifes suv to barstow vice the bike. He is down to 15 wpm from 24 words per minute at work so things are pretty much normal for the guy. Again i had a ball and will bw available for rides like this in the future. Evan
