  1. I was just going to post a link to the meeting for Coral Canyon which they have apparently just opened for the Spring (mud) but both campgrounds are closed due to "TBD bathroom installations".   Just wait until a month from now and it will be too dry to ride there.  There won't be a new off-road park in SD county in my lifetime, it's a money grab.

They also tripled the camping rates at Coral Canyon. I saw the bathrooms before they decided to close them and the problem was that they never took the trash out! There was literally five garbage cans worth of trash in and around one can. They wouldn't even bother to go over there.  Your government dollars at work!

In case you think I'm just being sarcastic, I spent the last 8 years of the last 10 years of my life watching the government waste your money at NAS North Island.  People are literally coming there to sleep until the retirement check is authorized.

I've gone round and round with them at Cleveland NF Descanso Ranger district for a couple of years now. They don't give a rat's ass about closing anything. Their closure for campfires is also expired. They're taking funds from OHV green and red sticker programs and not providing anything for it other than to buy themselves a new coffee maker and sit on their fat asses.  Any excuse for a closure is great for their agenda.

They recently upgraded (farmed out) the parking lot at Cedar Creek Falls which of course closed the connector to Eagle Peak road apparently permanently. They seem to have lots of money to install a camera there but won't lift their finger to repair any damage to the trails. It's much easier to close it.  Don't get me started on Deer Park rd and Thing Valley to La Posta.

I would recommend contacting somebody higher than Scott T. in the Descanso Ranger district to make these people do something other than apply for new grants to waste your money with.

@SANRider are you coming again this year?

@J5ive are you riding again? if not are you coming in your truck?

I have intel that the elusive @tntbromo is prepped and ready. He is ready to take on all comers in a game of cribbage!  That includes you @PaulyPickles

@Zubb what is your status for a campout? Come join the camaraderie!

@Jlburgess could be a great time to camp off the mighty DR650

Did somebody mention cribbage?  3rd generation player here. 😜. No DR for me on this one.  It's too close to carry the good gear.

  3. I can give a fairly recent report on the obvious loop around the Indian Flats (renamed) campground. The first part was narrow single-lane paved and/or groomed with scenery and zero traffic.

When I got there I found the campground was closed due to the Arroyo Toads again (it shows open now).

I continued to the northwest on the loop.

That part is pretty easy dirt except for a couple ruts and a wee bit of sand. I was on a big bike so depends on your perspective.  Easily doable with friends for all.

Hope to see ya' all out there! 👍

That’s good too, join in for the ride.  Sunday can be more exploring too, going north from the camp site is some good stuff that can take you up to Idylwild, Thomas Mountain, etc.

I'm thinking of making this a 2-night campout with day 2 (Sun night ) in Idyllwild.  I love that area and haven't explored everything yet.  Marion mountain CG is awesome. 👍. Looking forward to this already!

To be clear the date is November 4-5?  The initial post is a bit misleading.  I almost showed up next weekend. 😜

  5. I was thinking about taking the DR650 out tomorrow starting at Tecate' and heading towards Campo. This is a pretty fun ride if you haven't tried it before. It's pretty flat in most parts but a little bit of sand. There's a cool RR tunnel too.

I was planning on continuing down to Shockey Road which has a neat little canyon in it. Probably taking off from Jamul around 10:00 Sunday the 24th.  Send pm if interested.  Bring cash for El Paso Mexican food on rtn trip via 94.

  6. Unfortunately the massively endangered Arroyo Toad is back (having moved from Pine Creek Rd at Mt. Laguna?) and is now closing a campground east of Warner Springs.  No human can be trusted there I guess?  It will reopen in time for blazing summer heat though....

I would have liked to see the area and took a walk on foot but didn't make it far enough. 🙄

  7. Mission accomplished.  All good here!

It turns out the "major road" to Laguna Hanson isn't paved and gets progressively more sandy as you go further south.  I got about 20 miles from it and decided that was good enough for a solo trip.  I'd like to try that one again about 3 days after a rainfall with riding buddies.

That said the La Rumorosa toll road was epic!  It's full of switchbacks and cool rock formations.  Best $2 I ever spent! 😉

  8. A little something different this time. I'm taking the new Husqvarna Norden down to Baja via the Tecate' crossing. Planning to head down to Laguna Hanson then possibly up El Compadre if conditions look good. This is a scouting trip for future rides with more difficulty so keeping to main roads. Leaving Saturday morning April 22nd around 9:00 a.m. . If I haven't checked back in here by 7:00 p.m. that night there's an issue. Emergency contact Michele Burgess. 714-536-6104.  Cheers! 😉

I don't think anyone has mentioned a TIP.

    Only an FMM

Different documents. And yes, they're rarely requested, but I'd hate to give any reason for trouble there, and I'd hate to give my insurance company a reason to deny a claim.

People can take whatever risk they wish- just be informed.

If I'm reading this link correctly a TVIP is only required outside the "Free Zone" and Baja is entirely within that area so it would only be needed in the interior areas should you go that far.

  10. I wasn't aware of the FMM requirement but I did find the website, it's free, and it can be done online here:

    https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html

There is an option for a passport card so I think it will be fine.

🙄 Edit: Don't be fooled by these a*hole entrepreneurs from Spain who will attempt to charge you $89 to submit your info to the correct website above!
