Local San Diego OHV park plan! Mtg Jan 30.
Jlburgess replied to Vintage Veloce's topic in Important Issues, Environmental-Land Use Issues, Important Meetings & Local Information
I was just going to post a link to the meeting for Coral Canyon which they have apparently just opened for the Spring (mud) but both campgrounds are closed due to "TBD bathroom installations". Just wait until a month from now and it will be too dry to ride there. There won't be a new off-road park in SD county in my lifetime, it's a money grab. They also tripled the camping rates at Coral Canyon. I saw the bathrooms before they decided to close them and the problem was that they never took the trash out! There was literally five garbage cans worth of trash in and around one can. They wouldn't even bother to go over there. Your government dollars at work! In case you think I'm just being sarcastic, I spent the last 8 years of the last 10 years of my life watching the government waste your money at NAS North Island. People are literally coming there to sleep until the retirement check is authorized. I've gone round and round with them at Cleveland NF Descanso Ranger district for a couple of years now. They don't give a rat's ass about closing anything. Their closure for campfires is also expired. They're taking funds from OHV green and red sticker programs and not providing anything for it other than to buy themselves a new coffee maker and sit on their fat asses. Any excuse for a closure is great for their agenda. They recently upgraded (farmed out) the parking lot at Cedar Creek Falls which of course closed the connector to Eagle Peak road apparently permanently. They seem to have lots of money to install a camera there but won't lift their finger to repair any damage to the trails. It's much easier to close it. Don't get me started on Deer Park rd and Thing Valley to La Posta. I would recommend contacting somebody higher than Scott T. in the Descanso Ranger district to make these people do something other than apply for new grants to waste your money with. Krug Sticker Sighting?

I figured someone here knows about this. I saw it on a restaurant doorway in San Ignacio a few days ago. Too funny! Is that Krug? -

Looks fun! I'm headed out around 10ish tomorrow morning out that way around McCain on the Norden. Never ridden that area before so just checking out the easy parts if others want to join in.... Send pm if interested for details. -
Second Annual Noob Overnight Dual Sport Camping Trip: Nov 4-5

Did somebody mention cribbage? 3rd generation player here. 😜. No DR for me on this one. It's too close to carry the good gear. -

I could be convinced to drive my car so favorite dog can join in. I can get there earlier to save spots and that would make more refreshing beverages available too. 🍻😉 -
The ride you can do tomorrow....
Jlburgess posted a topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Posting up an unusual opening of Fred. It's been closed all year but can't get there until Saturday. Is there a storm they will blame it on? Post pics! Fred Canyon Road (16S08) Descanso/San Diego County Open For duration of storm -
Second Annual Noob Overnight Dual Sport Camping Trip: Nov 4-5
Jlburgess replied to tntmo's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I can give a fairly recent report on the obvious loop around the Indian Flats (renamed) campground. The first part was narrow single-lane paved and/or groomed with scenery and zero traffic. When I got there I found the campground was closed due to the Arroyo Toads again (it shows open now). I continued to the northwest on the loop. That part is pretty easy dirt except for a couple ruts and a wee bit of sand. I was on a big bike so depends on your perspective. Easily doable with friends for all. Hope to see ya' all out there! 👍 -
Second Annual Noob Overnight Dual Sport Camping Trip: Nov 4-5
Jlburgess replied to tntmo's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I'm thinking of making this a 2-night campout with day 2 (Sun night ) in Idyllwild. I love that area and haven't explored everything yet. Marion mountain CG is awesome. 👍. Looking forward to this already! To be clear the date is November 4-5? The initial post is a bit misleading. I almost showed up next weekend. 😜 -
I was thinking about taking the DR650 out tomorrow starting at Tecate' and heading towards Campo. This is a pretty fun ride if you haven't tried it before. It's pretty flat in most parts but a little bit of sand. There's a cool RR tunnel too. I was planning on continuing down to Shockey Road which has a neat little canyon in it. Probably taking off from Jamul around 10:00 Sunday the 24th. Send pm if interested. Bring cash for El Paso Mexican food on rtn trip via 94. John

Eddies 5 day baja adventure route
Jlburgess replied to V-Dog's topic in Upcoming Organized or Promoted Rides and Events
If I'm reading this link correctly a TVIP is only required outside the "Free Zone" and Baja is entirely within that area so it would only be needed in the interior areas should you go that far. https://www.mexpro.com/blog/mexico-free-border-zone/ -

I wasn't aware of the FMM requirement but I did find the website, it's free, and it can be done online here: https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html There is an option for a passport card so I think it will be fine. 🙄 Edit: Don't be fooled by these a*hole entrepreneurs from Spain who will attempt to charge you $89 to submit your info to the correct website above! https://www.mexicofmm.com/ -

My passport card just arrived and I'm itching to get the new Husqvarna out there. Looking to do a day trip loop south of Tecate' this weekend with these tracks if anyone wants to join. Probably going as far as Laguna Hanson then back up to scout out the area since I've never been that way. -
Stagecoach Trail 3-26
Jlburgess replied to cj54x's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Ah, OK then. I'll go ride towards Portero and Coral Canyon in that case. Hoping it is still open for 52" and under. The conditions website isn't real specific. -

I might do it if it isn't too extreme. I've ridden with you a couple of times so you know I just like to putt and enjoy the ride. If it's too challenging i would just go back to S2 and meet up again closer to Julian. I could meet up along 94 somewhere with the DR..... -
Welcome Sol Spring Ride Fri. Late Notice.
Jlburgess posted a topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
There should be some great riding conditions tomorrow after all the recent rain and looks like 62 degrees so I'm headed out around 10:00 or so. Kind of thinking Boulder Creek up to Julian and then? Anybody in for an easy loop? Send PM. -
I'm on hiatus from work for the next couple of months so looking for weekday riding buddies when crowds are sparse. I live near Jamul and like to ride 100 mile or so loops. I'm on a DR650 so nothing too dramatic. I rode Skye Valley today in Coral Canyon so that was pretty fun. I also like Fred Canyon or ??? Post up any ideas... 😉👍 John

Kind of a freestyle destination ride. Coral Canyon reports as closed except to vehicles under 53" wide. Hey, that's me! I enjoy riding up to the watchtower and doing the easy loop but won't be doing any gnarly single track there. Should be 4 hours maybe back via 94 or Tecate Peak detour? I usually start out in Jamul area so am flexible on meet up spots. Lyon's Valley Trading Post is my usual M.O. 17608 Lyons Valley Rd, Jamul, CA 91935 View from Tecate' Peak as Rory scans for trouble! 😉

Weekday Riders?
Jlburgess replied to Jlburgess's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I don't do Facebook because I have no interest in sharing advertising profits with Mark Zuckerberg. That's why I frequent my local forum and donate to keep it that way. If I post a ride here I would expect it to remain here and local people would RSVP. I did give you permission to post it elsewhere but I didn't realize that I would no longer be invited to the starting point. You probably didn't know that either? -

Otay Truck Trail Sun 2/5 @9am
Jlburgess replied to DoubleD's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
Yeah, I would think twice that offer! It will turn into a KTM single track ride I'd guess. Not sure who this dude is but lacks respect for the O.P. 🙄 -
I wound up doing a ride to Marron Valley instead. I didn't see anyone RSVP here so I didn't start at the spot mentioned in the first post. I turned out to be an epic ride anyway. A gate was open that is always locked and it said on a BLM sign "your OHV funds at work". Sounds like an invitation to me! It was a there and back thing for about 15 miles but lots of interesting stuff to see. I chickened out at the river crossing though, discretion being the better part of valor! 😃
