Great updates. My son and I enjoy watching motocross together when we can, I'm off shore for a few weeks and won't have that opportunity so at least I can get a bit of my moto-fix here.

Round 4 of the AMA Promotocross Series - the High Point National showcased 1-1 overall sweeps and holeshot sweeps in both the 250 and 450cc classes and holeshot. Neither winner nor holeshot winner was the points leader nor even the second place points holder!

Christophe Pourcel (250cc) aboard his Yamaha and Chad Reed (450) on his Kawi scored back to back holeshots in their respective classes!

The stars of the day however were Blake Bagget (250cc) Kawi rider and James Stewart (450cc) from Suzuki.

--James took the early lead in both races and while Trey Canard and Ken Roczen led chase, they could not catch him. Trey came very close in Moto 2 however, watch the video to see how close they were! Moto 2 of the 450 race was possibly the best race of the season with Dungey passing Roczen near the end of the moto, only to fall and have Roczen pass him back!

--Blake Bagget (El Chupacabra) is back! He hunted down Christophe Pourcel and points leader Jeremy Martin to make come from behing victories in both motos. It will be great to watch youngster Jermey Martin try to hold his points lead against the veteran Bagget throughout this summer. The mind games have already begun!

my DVR didn't record the Unadilla race.. apparently "Who's line is it anyway, CHIMA" or some sort of trash took precedence. WTF... Anyway; looks like Dungey is only 7 points behind Roczen. Tomac is making a good run, but Dungey, in his usual way, just keeps plugging along, riding HIS ride, and letting good things come his way.

Good for him

This series has been epic! The 450 championship is coming down to the last two races!

Roczen has had the speed all year, out classing Dungey and the field for the majority of the early season races. But.... the Roczen train fell off the tracks and Dungey is consistently beating Ken. Exacerbating the points damage to Ken, Eli Tomac is back and Trey Canard has stepped it up - both are beating Ken too!

Going into Unadilla, Ken had a 14 point lead but that got cut in Half to 7 points. Mathematically if Ryan Dungey wins the next four motos, he will win the 450 championship. Roczen has to rebound! Getting fourth in motos will not work. He must win motos to win the title.

These next two events will be awesome to watch.

Also, Roczen and Dungey are teammates! Ken is leaving KTM next year to ride for RCH Suzuki (he rode for Suzuki's growing up in Germany).

Today's race at Indiana is a Mudder!!

bikeslut et al, if you miss the race on TV you can watch it on youtube - look for the "Motoworld" user account, he posts all the full length race videos without commercials!

cool- good to know... who is a good mud rider? I traditionally think the Euro guys do pretty well in the mud, so maybe Roczen can pull this one out?

Yea the Motoworld Channel is awesome. I've been watching all the races there since I don't have a TV. I just stay off any motocross news sites/spoiler threads.

As for who is a good mud rider, I'm not saying anything as I've seen the first moto.

But, regardless of what happened today, the Roczen vs Dungey battle is awesome! 7 points, 4 motos. If Dungey wins out and Roczen gets 2nd each moto, Dungey wins. There hasn't been a championship this close in recent memory.

I highly recommend everybody follow these last two races!

That mud was ugly...the 2nd moto was so-so...no passes, no pushing; a war of attrition andminimizing mistakes

Rookie Ken Roczen wins the 2014 AMA 450 Motocross Championship aboard his Red Bull KTM

2014-Utah-MX_Race-Report_Jeff-Kardas_653

Mathematically it did come down to the last Moto of the last race to seal the championship. Dungey was closing in on Roczen and conventional wisdom though Dungey's late season surge with Rozen's dissapointing finishes would earn Dungey the championship... Nope, a horrible outing in the Indiana mud on the 2nd to last race of the season put Dungey behind a few precious points. Roczen Earned this title. And, he's only a Rookie! He is leaving KTM for RCH Suzuki next year - things will be interesting for sure!

Jeremy Martin won the 2014 AMA 250 Motocross Championship in his second year in the class aboard his Yamaha

O_M_14_47_10020_medium.jpg

Very impressive considering he didn't even qualify for the first two Supercross races in winter! Totally unexpected and he surprised Everybody by winning the first five motos of the season in dominance and continuing to stay up front and outlasting competition from veteran Blake Baggett and Martin's own teammate, Cooper Webb.

Jeremy Martin was a shock for sure. In the 450 class Trey and Eli would've been right in there if they raced at their potential in every race...the KTM boys did a good job, though, and earned their 1-2 final placing. This thread has certainly become more civil lately...nice to see. Looking forward to SX season; who wants to attend the SD race?

Im in as long as Honda is winning. Wait Honda is always winning, they build the best bikes (lawnmowers, robots, cars etc etc ) by far, over anything this side of the milky way/universe in a googleplex sort of way.

(hahaha Bike Slut, that one was 4 U)

Good racing season, I'm glad that it was close all the way to the end rather than a champ being crowned before the end of the season. Here's hoping for a good SX season as well!

SX should be awesome- I assume all the big players will be racing? Villapoto and Stewart at least. Roczen will be on a new brand, Tomac and Canard should be readyto rock. Reed is probably not a thread for the title, but he could podium. Looking forward to it...I usually get a few extra tickets for the SD show, so depending on my work/gig schedule, maybe I can bring some people
