Joliet 0 Posted December 29, 2010 I originally was going to Park at Ocotillo and ride over, but I had a bunch of new un-tested parts on my bike, so I decided to park at the meeting place and ride with the group. I didn’t see that the time for the ride had changed, I thought the start was 8 to 8:30. I was there at 8, then 8:30, then 9:00 rolled around and I still haven’t seen or heard another bike. I got on the Husky and headed down Painted Gorge Road toward Evan Hughes Highway. I met a dual sport rider on the road, so I turned around and headed back to the meeting place. It was an SDAR rider and there were 6 more behind him and one more 15 minutes later. Since I had not been on the bike since July, I decided to make a couple of trips around the parking lot to get the feel of things and promptly looped the bike . Not much damage done, but shot my confidence to heck. I felt like a total noob riding up the switch backs. By the time we came back down, I had my “bike legs” back and the rest of the ride would be a blast. When we got to the bottom the group split into 2 groups. Half headed back to the trucks to get gas to head to Superstition and the other half of us went out to do some exploring (which led us to Superstition anyway) I had some suspension work done and the Husky was a pleasure to ride (even after miles of whoops). We worked our way over to Superstition and found ourselves at the bottom of Sand Dam. The sand was slightly damp from rains earlier in the week and it was a treat to ride in. Alex headed up the longest run and made it over the top. I had never tried it, but with the ideal sand conditions I figured it was now or never. About half way up, I realized that a paddle would sure come in handy right about then, but I just left it pinned in third and spun my way to the top. We then worked our way around the back (North) side of Superstition and started heading toward the dip. That trail is pretty whooped out and we had already had our daily dose of whoops, so Dave led us back through the dunes, back over Superstition. We found a trail and headed toward Trestle Road. We followed the tracks toward plaster city to the wash with a trestle that is a mile and a half north of Plaster City, then took the wash west to Painted Gorge Road just a mile from where the group was parked. It was a total of 65 miles of excellent desert riding, with some old friends and some new ones.

ShocknAwe 0 Posted January 2, 2011 Should they also send their PayPal address? I mean, you're not doin' that show for free are ya? Yes, sometimes the best things in life are free. Public access tv can't be commercial by design. It's volunteer unless a cable show wants to show people overcoming natural and mechanical obstacles on offroad vehicles in SoCal's forests and deserts. But if it goes down that road, the political element would be eliminated and Col. Douglas Macgregor's comments on the nation's defense strategy/spending would be missing.
