10/22/10 Weekend in review

Recommended Posts

Went on up to Christi's track day on Friday. Conditions were perfect on the track. We all got plenty muddy, scootin' around out there.

There was a nice sized turnout; Tweety999 and Mike, Bonnie Warch, Dirtdiva and Jeff (not a Belnap) on a green machine and from out of the area came Kelli Oneil Calassa and Rachel Franco and also Shawnna Volpe dropped in to take a spin on the XR100 loaner bike. The usual snackies and lunch were on hand and good ol' John Duffy was working to drain the larger water hazards on the course, as well as tinkering on people's bikes when they needed a hand. ^_^ I think I got Tweetster hooked on two strokes after I let her rip around on the Flea for a few laps. ;)

We did the usual trail ride to the haunted house, except that between the last time we were there and this time, it got haunted with bees! :o Needless to say, we didn't go inside. I didn't get any really good shots this time around, but here are a few.

Kelli must have just told Becky something really funny.

It was a great day for all, and we were on such a roll that Christi, Bonnie and I decided that we would do some trail riding the next day, along with Andrea Beach. Soooo....

Saturday morning found the four of us out at McCain Valley. The place was pretty busy, and Colby and Al were there along with Robertaccio. I think Robert was waiting for some other people to show up and when they didn't, he hung with our group for a while. Anyway, the weather was awesome and the ground was still plenty moist. Our group rode singletrack for about 3 and a half hours before Bonnie thought she heard the casino calling her for a beef dip sandwich, so we headed back to the staging area.

Now, I managed to wash the front end out on Bentley The KDX very early in the ride....but no problem, just a step off. Later, I didn't quite make it up a rock step and dropped the bike, just picked it up and got on track again. But when we got back to our vehicles and I stopped my bike, killed the engine and went to dismount, I had the worst crash that I've had in ages. <_< Seems that I snagged my boot on the rear fender tool pack as I was getting off. Then I lost my balance, the bike began to lean towards me....and at that point there was no recovery. The weight of the machine pressed into me and drove me into the soil. I remember the feeling of my fanny pack pushing into the small of my back, then all that stupid bark that covered the dirt felt like rocks pressing into my arms and shoulders. Finally the back of my helmet slammed the ground, then bounced once. I can't believe how violent a zero miles per hour fall could actually be. I lay there on my back, stunned, with one leg pinned under my bike. My head hurt, my neck hurt and my back hurt. Some nice guy came over, lifted the bike off of me and asked if I was okay. I think I mostly used a bunch of swear words. After a while, I sat up, removed my helmet and finally got up and loaded the bike onto the Jeep. Then we went over to Golden Acorn Casino for lunch. It was a nice lunch with nice company, but less enjoyable with a lousy headache. :( Today, my neck was too sore to think of any real activity, so I puttered around at home.

So here are a few pics from yesterday's ride.

Before the ride. There's Andrea, Bonnie and Christi (growing right out of Bonnie's handlebars).

Good Pics Mimi - one clarification though....the kid flying the green Kawi is my son, Jeff - not a Belnap however. BelnapAir is my hubbys son, Zach (gotta love blended families - good thing we all love to ride). I concur - Friday was a great day and the track was in great condition. Thanks again to Christi and John!!!!!

Great pix as usual, Mimi.

Friday was nice. Great people. Nice track.

Thanks so much for leading the McCain trip Saturday. I had a great time. Next time we'll get more riding in.

I was sore on Saturday from moto on Friday, so I elected to not ride on Sunday. I wish I would have. I felt pretty good Sunday morning.

Anyway... More rain is in the forecast.

Oh well, it was just supposed to be a funny play on the name and the air shot. ;) I did however edit part of the original post to reflect this. :coolio:

I wish my neck would feel better soon, so I can put on a helmet to go out and enjoy all this precip.

sorry for the minor fork in the trail disconnect, and get back up on that green machine! Thanks just for being out there, it felt better for solo speed training knowing that your group was in the area.

:good: It was good seeing you out there, Robert. We figured that you had gone ahead at the crossing. We went way, way out there, past the LR stuff and into the limited OHV use area. We made a little loop at the end and then came back through.

I think I need some light weight, snagfree boots :laughingsmiley: before I get back on the green machine (and maybe a different helmet, too.).

Maybe your bike was just trying to tell you it wanted to ride some more - too soon to go home :girl_devil: ...

Hope you're feeling better today. I know those neck sprains can be a bummer (had my fair share from snowboarding). You don't realize how heavy your head is until your neck hurts :P .

I'm sure the little bike wasn't ready to quit right at that time. ;) It shouldn't be so passive aggressive about these things.
