Lunch in or near Julian

Recommended Posts

Some friends of mine want me take them on road ride on Sunday to Julian. I presume by the time we get there around noon all the restaurants will be busy. Are there any good restaurants (burger joint is fine) nearby (within 20 miles) that may not be as crowded? How about Santa Ysabel Casino?

Thanks for your help.

The Apple Country restaurant in Santa Isabel (corner of 78/79) is fairly roomy and serves burgers, etc. if you want to grab a bite before heading up the hill to Julian........

Another option on the way up to Julian rom Santa Isabel is "Jeremy's on the Hill" (used to be the Chicken Shack) at the intersection of Wynola and 78.......I haven't eaten there since it changed hands but it might be worth a stop.....there's also a pizza place across the street.....

or, if you want to wait until you leave Julian, you could opt to take a spin down 79 from Julian and eat at Lake Cuyamaca (though it may be pretty crowded there also)......

The Santa Ysabel casino is very nice. I ate dinner there and the food was great. We had the $4.95 prime rib special very good deal. In the main diningroom they have a giant picture window overlooking lake Henshaw. Great view! I recommend it. Shouldnt be too crowded. There is also a burger joint between Julian and Santa Ysabel in the community of Wynola. I have not eaten there but it is always busy and smells good.

Food is my other hobby, and Chowhounders endorse Jeremy's. It has a bonus- Wynola Road between the two highways is a great street bike road.

If you want to eat right in Julian, the Apple Alley Bakery is a nice little spot for sandwiches and of course, pie. Usually not too crowded and the prices aren't bad. It's on the east side of the street after you turn right onto the main drag going through town.

I also recomend Wynola rd to Farmers daughter rd into julian, really twisty and a total blast on a supermoto.

I'm pretty sure it's just called Farmer Road. But I appreciate the reference!
