Here are some pictures. I will try to find some more. I will also try to add some quote's

suck, huh? well, those trails were quite difficult.

I wanted to give a thanks to Craig (Hammerin Hammon) and recommend his ride for advanced riders. He has another ride coming up this weekend (12/9) you do not want to miss.

I meet Craig at the Home Depot/McDonald's at San Macros Blvd off of highway 78. He had already ordered his Egg McMuffin and a healthy Orange Juice. A die hard Honda rider, he has his trials bike (an XR440 with a hopped motor and a new rear tire). I knew I should have changed my tire.

After our meal we headed north to the riding area. It was cold, rainy and the lighting was flat. We proceeed north on Twin Oaks Valley road until making a turn on some non-description road. I don't know how Craig found this place, but that's for another story. The day before it rained all day. It was very slick, muddy and wet. We started up a fairly steep grade. I was going pretty good until we came to this step-up ledge. Not having enough momentum, my first fall occurred. Well I pick-up the bike and walked it down to try it again. Having a kick-start DRZ, I need to get that magical button. Again try it again and this time I got to hard on the throttle combined with the the poor traction and go sideways and get stopped at the same step-up. Craig was kind enough to show me how. A little embarassing, but heck after dropping and picking the bike up twice I put my pride aside.

We continue on more uphills with deep large ruts, bowling ball sized rocks and off-camber sides. These were easier as we got to the top of the mountain range. We started going down hill down and it was quite slippery. I lost the feel of my back brake (due to the mud and slick surfaces) and was cautious not to lock it up and slide sideways.

We did lot's of single track at the top of the mountain range. It was great. Some of it was steep both ways but fun. We came to a real "hero" hill climb. I watched Craig climb it and he was going sideways(rear wheel spinning) and decided not to follow. Had I had a better rear tire with less slickness I will try. Finally we went up these long sweeping hills. Again they are challenging. but when you make them the exhilaration is tremendous.

The mountain range runs parallel to I-15 a few miles west. it is remote and quite hidden. I recorded the tracks in my GPS as I you could never find this area yourself. We are lucky to have such a challenging yet close area to ride. Overall we did 22 miles in just under 2 hours.

I recommend to advanced riders to go on HH's ride. Yes, you will be picking up your bike but your riding skills will improve. I look forward to another ride with Craig (great attitude and ride lead) and his hero loop.

I want to thank craig for having me along on this ride, if you like technical this was it, if HEART ATTACK hill scared you at the dash this ride was not for you cuz it was one long down hill followed with uphills that made heartattack hill look like the bunnyslopes.

BTW- That's a 650R wedged in the rut, right? Would you say that's a better bike for Baja, and technical trails than your L?

also- one of those posts has you on an XR440... the stroker... not the L?

face it... what you are really saying to Kevin and everybody else is... you da baddest mo fo on the planet and you ride a 650L, therefore, the 650 L is the best bike?

what does David Knight ride?

Craig... i have to hand it to you... until you came along this site had a lot of posting about upcoming rides, and ride reports... now we have other things to talk about...

One last observation, then I'm going to ignore this thread... this area looks quasi- legit, and definitely in need of some trail maintenance... Craig... you may consider giving back to nature a little of what you get out of it; pick up some trash... cover up some graffiti with a neutral color... build a water bar or two to reduce erosion... but I'm a wimp that cares about legitimate riding areas; what do I know?

I sold the 440, it made everything too easy. The L is much better for long rides.

Any time anyone is up for a ride out in that area, let me know.

I take turns riding the Husky and the Gas Gas out there and try to get out there about every other weekend or so, and sometimes after work.

Can't ride this weekend because I'm down in San Diego doing swimming lessons with the girls but other than that I'm usually up for a ride in the area.

DS only? R

I usually ride my trials bike back there, but do also ride the Husky maybe one out of five rides.

Having the plated Husky is nice because I can ride to the spot from home or work, versus having to load the trials bike in the back of the truck and drive there. It's just that the trials bike is so much more fun :)

I'd say on average though that most of the bikes I encounter out there are not plated.

Nice ride, Thanks Greg!! - For H.H. - We KLR guys aren't all that fond of tarmac but you DO HAVE TO GET THERE.... BTW, only Mike was foolish enough to follow H.H. down the “super narlo bleep bleep trails”. That was a shortcut to the actual ride start… Mike paid for it as you can see…more than once... He’s a good sport for sure!!! H.H. keep it up and you'll force us all to become better riders or die trying

Mike is one of the toughest guys I ever rode with.

He says this only because we did not make it to the hardest part, and he wants me to go back!! On the down hill crash I think I would of scored at least a 9.5 for my dismount. A beautiful over the bars tuck and roll dismount. Never before worn elbow pads. Good thing I did! Soon to be the poster child for proper safety equipment! Its kind of funny looking at myself looking at "trigger" like its the bikes fault! POS!

The fact that the Hammer takes his wife down those trails only goes to verify that there is a padded room waiting for both of them!

QUOTE(stevehof @ Feb 7 2007, 06:10 PM)

How about we substitute "Brave, Manly, Adventurous" in the future!

All in all it was a great ride. No one got hurt! True dual sporting action! Was nice meeting Greg. Thanks for leading a great ride while showing us some new trails

Kevin, Hammer, you clowns need to learn how to edit posts. This thread is so difficult to follow, even though it's pretty funny I'm never coming back to it.

I had a fun morning. Due to lack of overhead surf I canceled my Baja surf trip, and surfed at home, early this morning, so I could make it to D.H's Sat.ride. I had fun seeng and rideind with these guys this morning. I havn't been rideing much technical in about 5 months, since I tore my meniscus and ACL. but my rehab. is going well. My right leg is a little weak still, but I had a fun ride. I raced to the bottom of this hill to get some good pictures.

Thanks, craig.
