Jlburgess 91 Posted July 29 This one is off of Pine Creek road in the Cleveland National Forest. I ride that area frequently and almost never see that gate open. I think I posted an accidental opening once a couple of years ago. I rode it today and found it was fun and easily passable, but then still locked Indian Portrero gate shown in pic. I'm hoping that this is a trial run for the area since they have been rolling over a forest closure for years due to supposed bad road conditions. I can't tell you how many times I asked Descanso RD why it was still closed. As you can see it has a bypass that would take you to Mount Laguna highway which also has a narrow easement at the gate. I didn't try it because I was on my own on a bigger bike but might be good for others? That's my story and I'm sticking to it! 😉
Oracle 203 Posted July 31 (edited) I rode it on Saturday on my Tenere 700. I too was surprised, and excited, to find the lower gate of Pine Creek Road open. It's been locked for years now under the guise of rutted trail conditions. It was obvious they have been working on the road/trail, including grading and backfilling areas with aggregate. Seems like they are finally getting serious about getting it done now. The area past that closed gate is in good condition, albeit a bit overgrown in areas as a result of minimal use. That trail has been an important part of one of my favorite loops out of Ramona that I've been riding for years and I'm glad to have access to it again. I hope they unlock that second gate and the gate at Sunrise soon. Edited July 31 by Oracle
KTMrad 533 Posted August 1 Yay ! Great news, I love that trail.
SANRider 80 Posted August 1 I was out there earlier today. The gate off Pine Creek Rd is still open with a sign stating "No outlet, locked gate ahead, 3 miles". I rode to the closed gate, but decided to not go around it. No sense risking an encounter with a ranger and jeopardizing a newly re-opened area. For a short out and back, you can stay on Deer Park Rd instead of veering right onto Indian Potrero Rd. it is rutted and overgrown, but fun. It still dead ends at a locked private property gate. For whatever reason, the gate for the Pine Valley Creek out and back road is locked.
