What a weekend! Great company, great weather, great riding conditions... I'll be back!

Thursday afternoon I pulled-in (following closely behind carguy) and set-up next to Schwinn. Cooked some burgers and such... then the wind started :D The early morning rain on Friday didn't faze me though (thanks to a heapin' helpin' or Dr. Morgan's magic "sleep-right-through-it" elixer - a perfect blend of Dr. Pepper and Captain Morgan) :D

Friday around noon we decided to hit the bottom of The Phantom Trail (thanks to the gate being open) and we estimate that we made it about 1/3 of the way up (hopefully carguy will post some photos). The route is extremely steep, loose, and rocky, so we decided to continue the attack another day. Like I said, I'll be back!

Saturday was all about sweep for R-O Jr., carguy, Chris ("Chris who?" you say... see below), papaalex, and me.

Tommy and I led the charge up Oriflame and stopped to let the others catch-up

Just before we reached Hwy 78 at Banner, we caught the group that left ahead of us. One of these guys had put on a fresh front tire the night before and somehow lost a front brake shoe which then dug into his rotor a bit. It gave us a chance to check out his buddy's Cannondale (that's it laying against the hillside). From the left; carguy, the backside of papaalex, some guy, CHRIS, and Tommy.

A quick gas stop at Borrego Springs and we we back at it.

IMG_0753.jpg

Tommy felt like crap all day, so every once in a while he would take a catnap while we waited.

Sweep at the Pumkins

IMG_0759.jpg

This one proves I was there

This guy was doing some training just North of Painted Gorge

IMG_0762.jpg

A little while later we found that Cannondale had lost his group and joined ours. He had a roll chart, but his ODO had crapped-out, which fully justified our Sweeperness.

Here's a shot of our camp and one of Sunday morning's rainbows.

Man, what a blast that was! Dual sporting is an entirely new dimension of riding for me, and boy am I hooked! I look forward to riding with you guys more often, and certainly again at the Dash next year.

I had a great time at this years Dash.

Some pre-dash mods to the Husky

Some exploring before registration.

I guess they got tired waiting for me to catch up and we went back down.

R.O.'s fox pants scared out the resident fox, he was too quick for a pic.

Someone said "your not going to take a picture of a KTM broke down are you?"

I pointed to my Honda patch on my vest and, well here is the pic.

What a great event! Hard to put into words how much fun my buddies and I had.

Thanks Randy and all the other SDAR members who put in their time and energy to put on the ride. Great Job!

My friend lost his tool kit out there some where. If anyone found one give me a PM and I’ll describe it. It would make his day if he got it back.

Thanks again for the killer SDAR weekend.

Wayne

Here SDland explains the best save of the year in some whoops.

17-2.jpg

He who witnessed it called it a save, he who who hung on for dear life called it a near-death experience... :P

I can't get over that sand in Tarantula Wash. Anyone who thinks "sand is sand" needs to check it out. Some combination of depth, coarseness, weight... I dunno... but it took a few more horses on the throttle to keep the front end floating over it. I ended up hitting some whoops and put on a good show for carguy.

Afterward, I think I said something ridiculous like, "I was going too fast to crash, so I decided not to." :P
