Crawdaddy 96 Posted July 21, 2014 Mike (Hoss), his wife Kimberly, and I went up to the Bass Lake area on Thursday to support the Stewards of the Sierras fundraiser (and ride some of the best stuff CA. has to offer). Rich (Twowheelsgood) joined us at my friend Russ's house. Some of Mike's other buddies had already rented the house that weekend and we mooched our way into the scene/met them there.....full house/fun house. Mike's buddies had their sons with them so they did their own thing while Mike, Rich and I rode dualsport. I knew where the Fundraiser folks would be riding each day so we adopted a plan of riding areas in advance of their arrival. On Friday we rode over to North Fork on slab and then headed up to the Whiskey Falls area, Wagner's Store (gas/lunch), Jackass meadow, Jones Store (NO PIE!!....but cold beer), 007 plunge..... On Sat we rode the Miami OHV area, along with staples like Big Rock, Tree Trail, etc. down to Triangle store for lunch (NO PIE!!, gas).....after lunch we made our way back up towards Russ's. Rich and I then cut across Big Rock again and made our way down to Fish Camp. Then we jumped on the east side of 41 and made our way back to Russ's through Big Sandy, etc. Yesterday morning Rich and I were up and out with the sun.....we charged up 007, explored a bit, and eventually made our way up to the top of Shuteye Peak.......then we U-turned back down......we were back at the house by ~10am.......nice morning fix.........it was tough to leave yesterday as we felt a few sprinkles packing up.......the dusty trails are heaven sent went damp......let's hope we get a LOT of rain this year......we certainly need it.......all the fun/scary water crossings in the area were tame.......hardly any water flowing at Whiskey Falls.....more like Whisky trickle...... Some pics.... Friday Whiskey Trickle Lot's of fun single track near Whiskey Falls Wagners......gas, lunch, zzzzzzzz Jackass Meadow Kicking back at Jones Store......boots off = two beer minimum No pics as we plunged down 007....too much fun to stop..... Saturday Big Rock trail (I'm sure you can guess where that name came from based on this photo). It's also known as Grant's Grade. Believe it or not Presidents Grant and Roosevelt (Teddy) traveled this trail via Stage Coach.......hard to imagine based on width of trail to today.......the "Big Rock" was up on the hillside in those days. Bitchin' trail through a Manzinita tunnel....don't recall its name.......very tame now due to lack of rain......used to be a slippery mess at far end.......still a bit a of a chore but not nearly as bad East of 41 near Big Sandy Campground Up and out with the sun yesterday morning....charging up 007 before the mountain bikers/other riders show up.... More 007 magic Trickle of a water crossing near Whiskers Campground On the approach/descent from Shut Eye THIS is a prime example of why everyone should contribute/support the Stewards of the Sierra.......it's a LOT of work maintaining these trails for all to enjoy......thank you Stewards

hoss314 0 Posted July 21, 2014 Awesome ride as always for a great cause. These guys do a lot of work to keep the best trails in CA open. Wish I lived closer to ride / help on the trails more often. As always great company to ride / hang with. We had a blast! Friday, over 150 miles of awesome riding. Dinner at El Cid that evening and a pitcher of Cadillac Margaritas....good to go! Saturday, got up early and whipped up a batch of biscuits n' gravy for some trail power. Nothing in CA beats the riding up there. Sunday, ended up staying back due to blown fork seals and cleaned up to get ready for the unwanted drive back home. Did not take that many pics this time....... PbdBlue 46 Posted July 21, 2014 Looks like another great event. I was at Whisky about a month ago and it was at least flowing a little but not much. Really brings home how dry it is this year. Glad you all had a great ride,. The Stewards are a very worthy organization.

Crawdaddy 96 Posted July 22, 2014 Nice... Looks like another great weekend... How far is this from Sacramento? Depends on route.......you could drop south on 5/99 and jump on 49 at some point?......49 is nice/scenic drive, or ride on street bike, through the gold country........49 bends right into Oakhurst and connects with
Crawdaddy 96 Posted June 9, 2015 The 2015 event is being held July 18/19. If you love riding in the Sierra National Forest (Bass Lake) come up to the SOTSNF annual fundraiser which will be held July 18/19. Info and registration at www.sotsnf.org. I'll be staying at Russ's with a few buddies Thursday-Sunday.....we'll be riding misc. "stuff" Friday/Sat. rather than the event tracks....but I'm signing up for the fundraiser as usual/regardless anyway......happy to kick in a donation.... Really appreciate the effort the Stewards make to maintain the trails/keep the trails open for all.....these trees don't cut themselves..... If you haven't ridden in the Bass Lake area......you really ought a make the effort.......special people/place/trails......

PbdBlue 46 Posted June 10, 2015 Just up there riding about a month ago. The place is dirt bike heaven. When I was there it had just rained so conditions were perfect. I expect it will be a little dustier this time of year but great fun none the less. Wish I was going but not in the cards this time.
