One & done, Sub-Humans Suck & I'm dumb

Recommended Posts

It was an acutely, feeling the BP rise every time the office phone rang, high level, multi-curse word day. Today sucked beyond the usual. Walking out the door, donning my helmet, cranking up some Pandora & gearing up while the bike warms up is my "moment before the moment"...then I throw a leg over the saddle, knick it in gear and brap off into the (my) "moment". Such a great moment, btw.

Earlier in the day, wife bragged about the fresh steelhead she acquired from the new Whole Food's place in Del Mar and planning to put the fillet over rice and sautéed vege's,, yada, yada. Sounds really good but I had a Shitty day, I'm getting a beer, see you soon.

Tony Roma's -San Marcos, good place, good people. Happy hour ? fuhgetuhboutitt, Stone IPA @ 2.50, Respectable cheeseburger/ fries @ 5.00, Really good shrimp taco's @ $4-5.. Did I mention Stone IPA @ 2.50? Tell Jordan I sent'cha. Just don't leave your helmet on the bike.. even if the bike is parked right in front of the entry.....

Finished my beer, paid up, walked out and the right rear footpeg is visible...hmm, thought I put my helmet here.

I'm dumb. Silver Arai XD4 w/ SENA. gone. I'm mad, then I remember how dumb I was for assuming. Never ASSUME, or you will make an ASS.. out of U unt ME.. (Benny Hill, anyone? anybody?)

I have a helmet lock in my top case, didn't use it, cuz, hey this my place & the bike's RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE ENTRY, who would dare to.... ya, I'm dumb.

Call wife, "Hey, uh.."....."... "well, I told you not to.."...... yup, yup, jus gimme a ride to Cycle Gear,.. k?.

Fortunately they're open until 7 so $107 and a VEEERRRY long ride back to the bike, I made it home, DMV & DOT compliant. F me,

LOCK UP YOUR BUCKET AND ANYTHING ELSE STEALABLE OR BRING IT WITH YOU!

Old lesson, new story.

Stoke - Ya, I know, I'm dumb, shut up.

I always like the old saw that was continuously told to me: locks keep honest people honest.

Horse crap.

Honest people don't need locks. They're not thieves. Thieves suck. Luckily they engage in idiotic behavior often enough they often don't survive too long. I'm OK with that.

Sorry that you had to encounter one of our local asset redistribution specialists.

Well said and quoted 'Czechsix.

Following the discovery, I went back in & asked if anyone saw anything, if they had outdoor video, brief query to other patrons, no to all.

they were really sorry, I assured them it was entirely my fault for providing drug money to the dregs of the earth and this could've happened anywhere the POS, dirtbag, SOB, MFr's, walking in to a bar and seeing one obvious MC dude sitting where he couldn't see his bike and then walking out like they're just making a phone call and stealing his helmet, would have been.

Along with accounts from the Bartender (Alex - super cool, long maned brunette) who thought she saw the guy "messing around" a little too long at his car, Ya,, I saw him, and his car. Just didn't take note enough of detail to report. All I could say is I parked next to a maroon, 4 door sedan, late 90's ish, possibly Pontiac or the like. He appeared of latin/Cuban descent, 5'4" ish, muffin top/ pear shape, walked in, sat down 2 stools away, gave me a once over, acted like he had to take a call, got up, walked out.

Shooby, I know it doesn't help but so sorry that happened to you!

And thanks for posting this: My helmet won't lock because of its design and a few times I've been tempted to leave it while I just run in for a moment. I never have and now I know for sure I never will. It's not worth the chance.

Sorry to hear about this. Is there any distinguishing markings that could help ID it? Size, color, model #of the comm? We have some real pro CL watchers here and I'm laid up for a couple more weeks and would be happy to keep an eye out for it.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Shooby. Good reminder for the rest of us. I never, ever lock up my helmets...just hang them off my mirror.

This was a wake up call.

But, really, $2.50 Stone IPAs?!?!?!?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm even leary about leaving my helmet locked to the bike but I don't think they'd let me bring it into the courthouse.

Like bladbeemer said, anything we can look for on Craigslist??

Rode to work with the new lid this am. I really miss my helmet.

Baldbeemer / Yeti - thanks, I had not considered that so I'll pull up & post what info I can later today.

Tdub - Yup, not worth the chance for the sake of not hauling a couple extra items in & out of a public place.

Robert - I like it. Along with a good soaking of poison oak oil.

Sucks. Unfortunately, there are a lot of criminals out there...and more to come as this prison realignement plan moves forward.

Damn man that sucks. Insurance should cover it. But it might be cheaper to cover it yourself.

I live in Oceanside and its a garbage dump. When ever I'm about to leave my helmet on my bike I get a mental picture of a homeless guy riding a razor scooter down the street with a Shoei Hornet/Scala set up. People around here take full advantage of all targets of opportunity...

I've had so much stuff stolen in broad daylight in la jolla (I know, right!?) that I either bring the helmet in or lock it inside my Givi E55. Did use the helmetlok for awhile until I had to break it off with a vise grips in Pahrump...and there are more than a few areas of the city I go to where I would be concerned about a homeless guy taking a dump in it or something. Maybe time to cross over to the dark side and get a lockable big topcase Shooby!?

I have a cheap trunk from JC Whitney- I lock my helmet in there, especially when out late at night at clubs.

....dont know if any of you youngsters remember when they implemented the helmet law. People were locking their helmets by the straps, then scum would just cut the strap with a knife in aa second...voila; helmet. Hit the seamstress for a new strap with D-rings....yes Vic...most people strap their helmet to their head

Was all I could do Sunday morning not to nab the new helmet off the bike and hide it while Shooby chatted….but I think Paul supplied enough torture already.

It would have been a mercy thieving, Tdub, I hate this helmet. It will serve as a spare and sit on a shelf until my next helmet gets "repurposed".
