johnnybags 0 Posted August 29, 2013 Let the camping, riding, eating and good times begin. After a truck breakdown Wednesday evening, thank God I live here, I'm finally set up at Coon Creek Cabin. Waiting on our awesome host Dsfox and camp chef Tracy to arrive. Several days of rain should make for good traction and minimal dust. Not to mention cooler temps. Upper 70's has become almost unbearable. Having trouble loading pics from my phone so. ...pics to follow
dsfox 0 Posted August 29, 2013 Yes, the 4th annual..:D/> sorry I didn't post it, but with the "returning" coon cabin campers, (who get first choice) this event always fills up quickly before general posting, BUT: Anybody want to join us for a day ride this weekend, come on up! We'd love to have you.... ... Or if you want to camp you'll have to Get a yellow post site, (15 +/- along the road on the way up to the group site) You need an adventure pass to park in the forest....AND there are no campfires currently at the yellow posts...BUT we will have campfires and/or our propane fire ring in the evenings...... Our group camp site is full for overnight parking...vehicles counts maxed ....and food count set, so you're on your own there... :(/> ..but Please come on by!! Day and temp parking is allowed over the limit....

baldbeemer 0 Posted September 2, 2013 This year the weather was perfect. A very welcome bit of rain welcomed me to the mountain. Temps hit 103 in Riverside so 65 and rainy worked for me. Not many pics from the ride, but I will say that Tracy and Deb went above and beyond to make the event extra special. One stop on the trail with Steve and Brandon Stopping for nice view of the lake with Steve and Johnny. A cold beer and fish tacos for lunch on Sunday. A great trip, perfect conditions, got to make some new friends and got to see some old friends again. Can't wait for next year.
dsfox 0 Posted September 3, 2013 Another great trip with great people.... Thanks to all of them for the memories: tlking6, john A, johnnybags, ian, brandon, dr. J, capncham, baldbeemer, danrider, tracy T, jacqui, todd and greta who camped down the road..... forgot to get our group photo this year. /> Big bear Never disappoints for summer riding fun, and nice cool temps..... I organize, facilitate, shop and act as assistant cook for this annual event... but tracy's food is one of the highlights.....he went all out with the menu this year...Thanks for feeding us sooo well...not to minimize baldbeemers' amazing smoked pull pork and "z's coleslaw" that are a coon cabin tradition. Every meal was Awesome....and everyone seemed to enjoy it all.... We had some excitement on saturday evening when at 11 pm, some rangers showed up after we were all asleep, threw their blue and red lights on and got me up...then one ranger rustled tracy from his tent......They accused we were 'in violation of fire restrictions' (which we had, as always, extensively researched, cleared with the camp host, and inquired about beforehand and in the end we WERE NOT in violation)...but the ranger mistakenly categorized our paid group developed site, as a "yellow post" campsite that WAS prohibited from fires....we even got it in writing from the discovery center the next day, just in case.... they pretty much gave us the 3rd degree with ID checks, "hands out of the pockets", and flashlights in the face....but in the end our humble and respectful explanations served to diffuse the situation..having them leave with just my name/address/etc......and they never came back (we think because they realized they were wrong after doing more research).....so all ended well... CAMP: THE COOKS, KITCHEN & FOOD: we eat well with street tacos; huevos rancheros, pulled pork/slaw; blueberry pancakes/sausage; chicken tortas, eggs benedict.....drinks, snacks and desserts....
