2012 KTM 350 XCF-W Throttle Position Test Harness - Need TPS Plugs

IMO it's more accurate to set the TPS using the 5 volt power coming from the ECU since that's what the bike uses when operating.

Ha! Just "adjusted" the TPS free-hand to middle of range. Started immediately from cold without choke. The bike has never started from cold without choke. D

This was a clockwise rotation, which is contrary to the ADVrider ex-pert. Test ride to follow.

Further adjustment and test rides.

Middle of range = off idle hesitation. Rotated a schooch counter clock from mid-range = smooth running. I will see how it starts from cold Thursday.

Went over to Jim's (Amgem's) last night with my bike. Idle was a bit high. TPS was around 5.80 as opposed to the 6.01 +/- .04 spec. Reset both (idle first then TPS). Bike was still hesitant to start when cold late last night but it did finally turn over without having to kick it. Need to take it out for a test ride to see if it'll hold a smooth idle in gear without stalling......that's been a problem lately....

Bike was still hesitant to start when cold late last night but it did finally turn over without having to kick it. Need to take it out for a test ride to see if it'll hold a smooth idle in gear without stalling......that's been a problem lately....

Your battery may be a bit weak. Try it again with a fully charged battery. Couldn't hurt to replace your fuel filter too. If no improvement send out injector for cleaning. I did notice the not so smooth idle. And it seemed slow cranking too.

Received my EB shipment at work over the weekend. Haven't had the opportunity to test fit the plugs, but I'm pretty certain these are the correct plugs after looking over the harness I used to set my TPS a couple weeks back. I'll let you know if there are any issues with fit later tonight.

Here's what I received with my order:

Here's my invoice with part no's. The connectors are the Yazakis. I ordered extra terminals for the inevitable crimping flub.

Test fit the plugs last night (without the terminls/pins). Perfect fit. Now just need to get to crimping...

TPS REPORT

Chads' part #s are correct as above.

Hey, I made the first jumper and read the idle output voltage.

Freehand Adjustment = .467 vdc :withstupid::crazy: Plus, although it started well the first morning, subsequently took 4 trys on choke to start. Not Success!

On my $60 Ideal meter @ 603 vdc starts immediately w/o choke when hot.. Reading on Millivolt scale PS - My RMS Fluke screen is taking a dive!!

Final Report:

As you see, I assembled a sampling cable. Picked up thin wall 18ga stranded ( $5.70 ), Open Barrel Crimper ( $23 ) and decent stripper ( $16 ) at Willey's Electronics. Thanks PbdBlue. You will have a problem if you use std. construction wire and crimper. There is always a correct and incorrect way to assemble equipment. After fooling around, you realize the connector open side points to the catchy thing in the body. My first set I installed two wires in two of the pins. It works, but the pin is not sized for two wires. The " technician" will be measuring the two outside conductors. I installed the inside butt-splice because of talk about 5vdc input. May not be needed as I only measure OL to that point. The cost to make 3 sets is $82, but you keep the tools and wire plus the fun of DIY is priceless!

Tuning

As stated earlier, "freehand" you get what you pay. Nada! Mine is set to .605vdc. No back-fire on deceleration, smooth throttle. From cold, almost wants to start. Instant with choke. After morning choke start, it started several times without choke.

Nice work. Be sure and set your idle speed before the TPS as adjusting the idle will change the tps setting.

I thought you knew EB shipped from Japan, otherwise I would have let you know. I learned the minute my shipping on $9 of merch (below his minimum order) was approx. $900.00! HA!

I ran across the gizmo below in a YouTube vid. It's used to accurately set the voltage on the throttle position sensor (TPS) on the throttle body of my KTM 350 XCF-W. Because I tore the whole thing down to give it a good cleaning, I want to be able to reset the TPS properly.

The harness is available on the internet for $36, but I'd rather make it up myself, IF I can find the appropriate parts. I've somewhat scoured the net and have had no luck finding what I think I need.
