2011 LowCal250 and LC11 Rally

Recommended Posts

Dear LowCal250 Past Participants, Sponsors, and Volunteers:

It is once again that time to line up our ride calendars for next year! The

8-hour LowCal250 Motorcycle Rally will be held on April 23, 2011, starting and

stopping at San Diego BMW Motorcycles.

Now just in case you can’t make the April 23rd date of the LowCal250… we are

going to flip the whole thing inside out and run it again as the 11-hour LC11

Rally, starting in Yuma AZ the following weekend, April 30, 2011.

Last year we had a lot of fun getting together before the rally to review some

basic route strategies. This year we want to ratchet that up a notch. On March

26, 2011 there will be a chance to kick some tires on some full-battle rally

bikes, hear a brief talk from a rider who has gone from 2008 LowCal250 Rally

novice to 2011 Iron Butt Rally entrant, and have a chance to ask questions from

a panel of rally veterans. On top of that, we’ll be raffling off an entry to the

2011 Utah 1088 Rally! Any rider who can be in Salt Lake City on June 24, 2011

and checks the box stating so on their LowCal250 entry form is eligible for the

drawing (a $250 value, donated by MERA).

For more information about the LowCal250 Rally (past and future), or to download

an entry, go to http://www.lowcal250.com. Our beneficiary is the Polycystic

Kidney Disease Foundation http://www.pkdcure.org/ and your rally entry is once

again is a 100% deductable donation to help researchers find a cure for this

genetic disease (if you would like to have an entry emailed to you, please reply

back to this email).

April 23, 2011 – LowCal250 Rally (San Diego, CA)

April 30, 2011 – LC11 Rally (Yuma, AZ)

Oh yea, we'll be hitting some of the locations in this film:

I'm in again - and again, without any of that newfangled gps stuff. Oh, and this time I'll be reading the details like when a bonii location is open.

Bump for Craig and the PKDF.

I am really hoping to make the LC11 Rally this year in Yuma as the LowCal is during my wife's Spring Break. Everyone that has done your Rally has had really good things to say about it.

I would recommend this rally for anyone who enjoys riding. You can make it as challenging as you want, or ride an easy ride and enjoy the camaraderie, good food, and helping out a great charity. There were all kinds of folks there last year: From IBA types with multiple gps, fuel cells, blah blah blah - to a couple riding 2up on some kind of knock off scooter. The girl was driving. She was 5' nothing and the guy was well over 6'. It was quite a sight.

Good times.

Bump for Craig and the PKDF.

Thanks guys. It's been a fun event to put on these past few years.

If anyone wants to try the 11-hour rally that starts in Yuma, make sure to sign up soon so you can get in on the packet one week in advance.

The regular 8-hour rally starting and stopping at San Diego BMW Motorcycles can take last minute sign-ups, but it sure is easier if you sign up in advance (you know, planning and whatnot).

Ride a bike. Read a map. Just don't read a map while riding a bike.

Got the company I work for as a subcontractor to donate some $$ to this fundraising event for the PKD.

Also, got some local shops to throw in some items for the rider raffle at this event.

Had fun working the LowCal 250 again on Saturday and helping Craig put on the Rally. Got a chance to talk a lot with Mike Langford, Iron Butt Finisher...he had lots of good stories and input about the Iron Butt.

There were 23 entries, I think all of them finished. I believe the final number was $3400 raised for the PKD Foundation (SDAR also donated).

Eddie from SDAR got a 3rd place in the Rally. The guy who got first place, it was his first Rally ever....good job !

SDBMW had their open house over the course of the day, so there was lots of free food and stuff. Saw Steelrain down there in the morning with his sweetie.

A great day !

He made that class up, but who's to stop this animal? :heh:

I finished 11th and had the distinction of riding the most miles (400+).

First time rally and really enjoyed it. I look forward to the next one!
