The Otay to Campo Excursion

Recommended Posts

The boundary lines Google shows can be a few feet off.

The border fence is about 3 feet inside the United States. Try going to Google Earth and locating the border fence on either side of the tunnel. A straight line between the sections of fence should be pretty close to the border.

Paul was right. The other end is Mexico. I stand corrected. Did the same google maps exercise and saw it too.

Today I was talking to a guy that works for a company that installs surveillance equipment on the border and he told me that they have cameras and other sensors. He also mentioned that some part of the border needs to be open so wild life can cross it. That is what I was told; don't quote me on that.

You can always cross at the Tecate POE and ride up to the south side from Mex Hwy 2. Just take a good look around before you approach the fence on the Mexican side. Bad guys have been known to hang out there.

I'm game for doing this ride this weekend. I will bring a helmet cam to expand my border fence documentary and my passport just in case.

Thank you FakeName for the ride and leading me on my 1st ever freeway experience. 70 mph with a sun visor (wind catcher) on 250 lb bike arms reach from a suburban is an exhilarating way to start a Saturday.

Bikeslut you\'d be proud, I actully put air in my tires before I started the ride this time.

650Hucker, glad to see you\'re still rockin the \'deathwings\'. Wasn\'t fast enough with the camera to catch your fall as you were drifting around that corner. Nor was I able to catch X-man as he was faced with door #1) run over hucker, door #2) run off a 30 cliff, or door #3) dump the bike and hope to stop in time before colliding with hucker. He chose the latter. It\'s always good to see someone other than myself fall. You never know where the line is until you cross it.

Beautiful day, Beautiful ride. Wish I stuck around for the tunnel. That looked cool.

Impressive show by the guys on the big bikes. Nomilk4u on his KLR Adventure and the beemer.

I don\'t recommend riding this route if you are prone to epilectic siezures. It was like riding over a UPC code. Very trippy, almost hypnotic.

Thanks Nomilk4u for riding back to 94 with me. That was my 2nd time on a freeway.

2 days later and that water from the crossing that got in my boots is starting to smell like the inside of my leg cast after the doctor cut it off when I was in high school.

Looks like a fun ride.

I have crossed the border though that tunnel before

Sure saved us about an hour's worth of riding trying to get to RSV

Much thanks to Paul and Ken for putting this together and leading the way! I had a blast! Ordered an engine guard yesterday, and am shopping for some decent off-road tires (I'll just swap out the night before in the future).

Great to meet everyone.

hobiee, I rode out from Ramona, it only took about an hour to get to the meeting spot. I peeled off in Campo and (a last minute change on my part), came back through Mt. Laguna (pretty cool with all the snow), through Julian, and into Ramona. Moutains, water crossings, sand, mud, rocks, and snow all in one day.....damn I love SD!

Brenden's Photos Linky

Kewl that the photos have a map showing the locale of the pictures.

Spyder

WOW, that is so cool. I didn't know my iphone tagged GPS data for each pic. I opened it up in Google Earth and all the picture are there.

Maybe i'll use my iphone for this kind of stuff from now on.

Thanks for sharing the link spyder.
